I have always been a big fan of crocheting, but I have forgotten the therapeutic feeling it brings while knitting. In my teenage years, knitting was everything to me, but I stopped for so long that I forgot I had that kind of skill in me.
However, after my Thursday Discord meeting #pypt by @shadowspub when a Hivean submitted her post to speak on, it just clicked at that moment that I used to love knitting and I decided to rekindle the fire that I thought I had lost in the skill.
... and this brings me to social media. I believe social media is a tool, and what makes it good or bad is we humans who make use of it. Surely, before the invention of social media, humans have always been diabolical. We all have that insane part of us that comes out when our limit is pushed, and that's how some people make use of the media.
They pull its strings and continue doing so while feeding off bad aura to people who have no self-control or who can't think for themselves. If social media is good, it is because people have used it well, like in my case. After knitting the purse, I wanted to knit the flower placed on it. I had the idea, and I did it, but I wasn't getting it well, so I had to make use of YouTube.
After some minutes watching the YouTube video, I was able to get what I wanted. And that's it. The fact that I used the media to gather knowledge instead of something else means the power of abusing social media is in our hands.
Though I am not blind to the presence of fake life, news and other things being online has brought upon us, especially with the high rate of fraud that has taken hold of the internet world.
But the truth is that these things have been in our world before the existence of the media, the thing is that the media just made it possible to connect globally with a lot of people with just our devices which has cause more harms.
Just like Roxane Gay as said;
Social media can be good and bad depending on how we use it as humans. The amount of power we give to it to feed us with things we search on it and so much more.
Maybe if I hadn't been online, I wouldn't have seen something to spark the knitting light in me to give it a go again and I wouldn't have been able to spend more time reflecting on other skills I once had that I became too busy to attend that they were forgotten.
I wouldn't say social media is good or the best because I know what I derive from it and I won't say it is bad too because I have seen news propaganda that just wants me to take time off the internet because of the garbage they're filled with. As I stated earlier, social media is just a tool. Just like a knife. It can be used to cook while some use it for murder. Therefore, whatever we get from the media is all humans.
