Jane was selected as the sole representative of her school in the national school debate competition. As expected, she did excellently well at the zonal level, besting her opponents to emerge best and the sole representative of her region at the grand finale.
Everyone expected her to come out tops at the grand finale, having won her coast to victory at the regional level.
When the events began, she started very well and was almost coasting to victory. That was however the first round. The margin between her and the runner's up was not much anyway. Everybody knows that it will be her or the runner's up in that first round that will carry the day.
The second and final round came. Jane could not round off her points within the time allotted and so spilled into extra time by two minutes. Her immediate rival, that is, the runner's up in the first round took advantage of the situation and rounded off her work with just two minutes remaining. She was declared the winner and Jane who was hitherto the leader had to agonisingly settle for second place.
Her fans were all heartbroken with tht turm of events and the final outcome.
