5 Reasons why I think AI cannot replace Sites like Stack overflow

in #stackoverflow9 hours ago

Today I was checking Stack Overflow for an answer. That's when I was wondering if AI can replace these websites. One of my office colleagues used to say that there are several things that AI can never replace. Creativity is one such thing, and personal opinion is something that AI can mimic, but that's something that AI cannot replace. I was wondering what the things are that AI cannot replace with Stack overflow and came up with the following.

Community is strength

Even though AI can answer pretty much everything, asking the questions to a real community and getting the answer from a human interaction is definitely different. Community is definitely a strength that cannot be replaced by an AI. The thought process and everything are different when it comes to community members than AI.

Collective debugging efforts rather than AI doing the debugging

We usually reach out to AI to debug an issue. Today, we have so many restrictions and limitations with AI. After a point, context retention is a pain, and even if we try to achieve that, hallucination is another big problem that we have to resolve. With the help of communities like Stack Overflow, we will be able to get thoughts from multiple people and do the debugging collectively.

Up-to-date and sometimes live information

AI is not up to date. They say some AI is up to date, but they give information only based on the available data. Let's say we need some answers based on something that happened today or a few hours back. Only a few AIs are capable of getting real-time data and sharing it with the users. Most of the AI work only with pre-existing data, which makes it outdated.

Answers specific to the context rather than being generic

Context retention is a big problem, and it is very hard to keep the AI in context. There are also hallucination problems where AI can assume things and even jump out of the context. This is a big problem, and getting things done with this problem is challenging. This problem is very much evident in the free AI tools, and paid AI tools are controlling this to some extent, but they are still not 100 percent.

AI makes mistakes

This is a commonly known thing. We have to be very careful when using AI. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but AI can make really stupid mistakes. If we don't review the information we collect from the AI, we might end up making a big blunder. Usually, in all the AI tools, there is a disclaimer at the bottom saying that AI can make mistakes. We have to be careful about it.

I think AI can overcome most of the issues you've described. Not in its current state, granted, but it's improving day by day. Soon, Ai will all be using 'real live data' and be able to troubleshoot issues across multiple sources, making it the 'best' debugging tool.

I do agree that one level of AI can never compete with the 'human experience'. Yes, it could collect all the data, but people are all different, we see things differently and react to things differently, that's something AI will never truly be able to replace, anything technical though, I think we're toast!
