The things that bring me joy and happiness are synonymous to the things I love to do. In a bid to stop existing and start ‘living’, I decided to scribble down a few things that I derive joy from just so that I could do them more often. Luckily, the prompt for this week throws more light on this.
There are a number of things I love to do. I derive great joy from little things like watching the sunset or listening to music and from big things like achieving a milestone or completing a crochet project. I'd be highlighting a few things I'm passionate about and make time for regularly.
First, listening. It doesn't matter who or what I'm listening to, I just love to listen. I find that by talking less and listening more, I learn a whole lot.The beautiful part is that I don't just listen with-out, I listen within too. This involves listening to my intuition, the little nudges that aim to guide my path. I can't count the number of times my listening habit has saved me. Is it when I listened to a friend's tragic experience and by doing so narrowly escaped a similar situation or when I listened to my instinct to carry out an action that ended up providing lifelong benefits?
Many people are always talking but not so many take the time to actively listen. And out of the active listeners there are only a few who actually ‘hear’ what they are listening to. This way, they risk misinterpreting others' messages, leading to conflicts, unnecessary problems and general oversight of valuable insights, advice or chances for growth and learning.
One other thing that I absolutely love doing is crocheting. The feel of the yarn and crochet hook in my hand is pure bliss, signalling the start of an exceptional creation. I may not be the best crocheter in the world but I derive great joy from even the tiniest crochet project I set my hands on. However, I haven't made a crochet item in weeks courtesy of other important challenges that need to be tackled and this saddens me.
Another thing I love doing is playing games. I've set my hands on every single common game you can think of, some of which I've become proficient in. I excel in games that require intellect and strategy. Take monopoly for instance, I like how each player has to weigh the pros and cons before making any financial decisions. How every mistake or wrong turn costs a player. How one has to amass wealth to show proficiency. And whenever I win, it is pure bliss. I've thought of expanding my scope to other board games like draft and chess but until I find a great tutor, I would stay put.
These are a few of the many things that I love to do and that I in turn derive joy from.
This post is made in response to the prompt for the week. Do well to check it out.
