As a student still studying in the school, I usually do not earn enough money to atleast set side for emergencies . I do save money and make plans for sure , and that is just in case of non-emergencies. The money i save is just mostly to take care of myself and make plans for the future.
To avoid the temptation to spend my savings, I transfer them to my sister who lives far away. I also sometimes save some money with my mum as well as in my other bank account, I don't have access to, no credit cards, bank app or access to the bank code to prevent reckless spending.
Although, i generally don't fall ill often, but I do struggle with malaria, which significantly impacts my health. Typically, when I contract malaria, I prefer to rest and let it pass on its own, rather than visiting a clinic for medication. However, there was a period when I decided to stick to this same routine, and the malaria severely affected me. This happened during high school, right around exam time, leading to my exams being postponed and my mother having to come to the school to pick me up.
We got to the hospital and I was diagnosed with having a temperature of 40°c which was more than the normal body temperature. I was admitted at the hospital and placed on drip medication. I also bathed with warm water for days to supreess my temperature because the sickness really affected me massively. Later on, I got back to school and I sat for my own exams separately , it was my mum and my brother that catered and payed for the hospital bills.
In summary , I rely on my parents for support, including covering medical expenses when I fall ill, so I have never for once saved or thought of saving some money aside for emergencies. I certainly don't wish to be in a state where they will have to cover my hospital bills or pharmacy costs and i deeply regret the burden this places on them.
It is never my intention to put my family in such a position, and I am fully aware that no one desires to be in the midst of an emergency. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to stay healthy, these situations can arise unexpectedly and are often beyond our control.
