So,things are actually getting out of hand in my country, and it is not even funny anymore. Everyone is lamenting and complaining because, within the space of two weeks, the inflation rate in the country just surged, and we were all not prepared for it. Our currency keeps getting weaker and weaker against all other currencies, and things have become really expensive.
I went to the market today because I needed to restock, and I just could not believe my ears when they were mentioning prices to me. I almost thought I was being pranked because those prices were absurd, and it was just so frustrating. I had to go around to compare prices and make sure I got the best deals since everything was super expensive and I am a retailer. Sometimes, I even sell to resellers and that’s why all of this is very depressing.
The current prices of things in the market now are almost and some were even more than my last cost prices. I don't know if you can imagine how wild that is. I couldn't even buy a lot of things because they were too expensive, and I didn't even know how much I would charge my customers. The crazy part of this all is that these perfume dealers didn't increase their prices because they restocked and things are costlier. They are using the news about the naira devaluation to change their prices.
Honestly, I do not blame them because their fears are quite valid because by the next time they restock, the prices might have really gone up. I guess everyone is just trying to be on a safer side and it is quite understandable.
As I was going back home and I entered this bus filled with traders that also came to buy things in the market. They were also lamenting bitterly, talking about how they bought some items a particular amount last week and how much has been added to it by this week. Like me, most of them could not buy a lot of things and just had settle for other things or not even buy at all. It is a very bad and sad situation, and I hope there will be amendments soon.
I also hope that the prices of things go back to normal, and thats a hard wish to actually make. It is very rare for things to go up in this country and eventually come down if things get better--asides from foodstuffs. Honestly, I am just looking at how this whole thing will pan out and the steps that will be made to tackle this situation. I am really hoping for a positive change as soon as possible because things can not continue this way.
