The generosity of neighbors

Raspberry

Lovely day in Vermont. Our neighbor offered to let us pick some of his raspberries.

The haul

We picked 4 and half pints. That was basically one side of the patch, he had picked the other side earlier today.

Many

He planted these raspberries two years ago (maybe three?). They really cropping heavy this year. I think he got these from Johnny's Seeds. Johnny's is a bit pricey for me but he likes to spend more for quality and I can't argue with the results.

Trio

The extra bonus of my nice neighbor is I have been transplanting some runners to my berry patch each year 🙂

Patch

Its hard to see this time of year but he put up some posts and wire to keep his plants upright. The variety he planted grows upright, is mostly thornless and has nice big berries. Much different than my bristols (black caps). But I have to tell you, they are nice to harvest.

Day lily

He also moved some day lilies over from the flower beds around his house.

Poppy

Same with these pink poppies. Poppies always remind me of California. The yellow California poppy is a common (and beautiful) wildflower on the grassy hills around the state.

Day Lily 2

Another variety of day lily that was too pretty to not photograph.

Garden

This final photo shows a little more of his garden. Asparagus gone to seed in the background, garlic, tomatoes, lettuce, brussels, eggplant, squash. He is my inspiration. Unfortunately, his garden gets much better sun than ours so always outproduces ours.

Those berries look gorgeous! It's great to have good neighbours; and extra bonus for knowing exactly what you are eating, home grown food ftw! ;)

We love this time of year when we have produce from the garden. We are far from self sufficient even in the summer. But we savor each treat from the garden.

Every little bit of home grown food is better than zero. And they taste way better!

Where can I find such neighbours? Hehe 😛

You have been Curated 🌷

Thanks 🙏

Where can I find such neighbours?

Why in Vermont of course 😉

Hehe, that's right 😃

Everything was great: the neighbors, the berries, and the photos. Nature is always a wonderful source of inspiration. Cheers, @steven-patrick
