I can't believe it's Tuesday already, time sure flies...
That means it's time for another Three Tune Tuesday, and first off I want to say thank you to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event. If you don't already participate why not join in on the fun by sharing three fun songs in a post of your own? All you need to do is use the tags #ttt or #threetunetuesday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @ablaze . One lucky participant will win some HSBI units each week.
Today I just felt in a reggae kind of mood, and one of my favorite reggae artists is the iconic Bob Marley. He started his musical career in 1963 with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer eventually becoming Bob Marley and the Wailers. They introduced the world to the sounds of reggae and ska music. It also made Bob Marley a musical icon that is still a major musical influence to many artists today.
Unfortunately, he developed melanoma under his toenail on his right big toe in 1977. He refused amputation as it would hinder his musical career. By 1980 it had metastasized throughout his body, and he passed away a year later from complications of the cancer in 1981 at only 36 years old.
His career may have been short, but was a very productive one. Let's dive into some great tunes!
Stir It Up
This song was written by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1967, it was recorded and released as a single that same year. It was the first song that had been written by Bob Marley to be successful outside of Jamaica, introducing him to an international audience. It was later covered by Johnny Nash, on his album I Can See Clearly Now, and was in the top ten on the charts in the US and UK.
Here is Bob Marley and the Wailers live at The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1973 during their first trip to the United Kingdom.
Three Little Birds
This song was written and released in 1977 on the album Exodus. It was re-released as a single in 1980 where it received more airplay and popularity. I've always enjoyed this song, it's just an uplifting tune that's hard not to enjoy. The video for the song is also very entertaining, here's "Three Little Birds".
One Love
This tune was written in 1965 by Bob Marley and recorded with the Wailers that same year. However, the most famous version of the song was recorded in 1977 and released on the album Exodus. It was subsequently re-released as a single posthumously in 1984 for the album Legend, and became a top ten hit around the world. This is a great song, "One Love".
That will wrap up this edition of Three Tune Tuesday, I do hope you enjoyed it. I always enjoy listening to Bob Marley music, it just puts me in a good mood. It was a shame he died so young, but it is a good reason to get those moles checked. Melanoma is a nasty cancer. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below, and thank you so much for all of your support. It truly is appreciated! I hope you all have a great Tuesday!
