I was fortunate enough to grow up in the late seventies and the eighties. There were so many genres of music that were all popular, from disco, country, to hard rock. One of the most popular music shows in the late seventies was "American Bandstand" hosted by the late Dick Clark. At one moment you could be hearing the latest hit by ABBA and the next song could be AC/DC with "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". You really couldn't get much different than those two bands!
I grew up listening to many of the bands from the new wave movement and the second British invasion. But also loved listening to heavy metal, which is still one of my favorite genres today. Then again I'm also a Mozart fan, so call me musically confused!
Yesterday, while responding to a post by @tengolotodo , I mentioned the city Albuquerque and gave him the idea to dive into Prefab Sprout. A band from the eighties I also liked, and got me thinking about another band from Scotland that I hadn't heard in some time. It's a band a friend of mine liked and it grew it me, called Aztec Camera.
So today we're diving deep into some music from Scotland, a band that our friend @tengolotodo saw live a couple of times. Singer Roddy Frame formed the band in 1980 and was the only real constant member of the band. They released their debut album "High Land, Hard Rain", which seems to fit very well with Scotland somehow, in 1983. It contained their first hit "Oblivious". So we'll kick off with that catchy tune:
One of their bigger hits off of their "Love" album from 1987 was "Somewhere In My Heart". I really don't remember it much in the US, but in that time period I may have been listening to more heavy metal! It's a great song though, have a listen:
And third up I'll go with one that wasn't one of their big hits, but just a song I always found very catchy. It came off of their first album as well and is called "Walk Out To Winter". I searched high and low for the music video for this song and many are out there, having been transferred from VHS tapes, and to be honest they just plain sucked. Huge ugly pixels, enough to give a migraine. So, I decided to just go with the album version.
That will wrap up the #threetunetuesday . If you don't already participate feel free to jump in and share three of your favorite tunes. One random participant wins some HSBI, never a bad thing to get for free! Just make sure to use the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday . It's never a bad idea to a shoutout to @ablaze either!
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and I hope you enjoyed this great band that aren't all that well known. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below and as always, thank you so much for your support! Have a great day everyone!
