A new week begins, so I wish you all a very productive and happy week. I've been reminiscing about the music I've loved throughout my life, and today I've chosen a band I want to share with everyone. So I'm back for another MUSICAL MONDAY, the beautiful musical initiative created by @eugelys, the ideal space to share our musical anecdotes, tastes, and memories.
A band that I've always liked since I heard them for the first time, back in the distant year of 1983, is ADITUS, a musical institution in my country, Venezuela; for me it is one of the best pop-rock bands around here. Let's remember that ADITUS was formed in the 70s, but had a lot of success starting in the 80s, specifically with the album POSICIÓN ADELANTADA. Several of their songs were constantly playing on radio stations, and they also toured constantly, so I attended many of their concerts, and even sound checks.
ADITUS's songs addressed various themes, especially love, which is a fundamental concern when we're young (well, it always is, but in adolescence it's kind of a vital issue). However, they also recorded songs with other themes, such as protest, criticism of society, etc. They were a wonderful band, with a high musical level and beautiful lyrics, and they were very famous both in Venezuela and abroad. I remember hearing an interview in which they told an anecdote about a trip they took to a Central American country, I think it was El Salvador, and they were so famous that they were received almost as if they were The Beatles, to the point that they had to disguise themselves to escape from a crowd of fans who chased them through the streets. That said, let's look at the songs from my MUSICAL MONDAY.
Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
I'm starting my MUSICAL MONDAY with the wonderful song “GUARDIA DE FRONTERA”, I think it's one of the best-known early songs by ADITUS. This song is on the album POSICIÓN ADELANTADA, which was released in 1983. For me, the lyrics of this song were a discovery at the time because the theme relates to the situation of border guards, a topic that was rarely heard back then. The lyrics are very eloquent, but the music is MAGNIFICENT. The drums, guitar, and synthesizers sound incredible, creating an almost epic atmosphere. Here I'm sharing two audio recordings, the first one in the studio and the second one live. The latter is from the concert “En este país” (In This Country), from 1993. In fact, all the live audio recordings included in this post were recorded at that concert, which was amazing, by the way.
My second song is really catchy, and it's the beautiful "CASUALIDAD", which talks about the beginning of a relationship through a crossed telephone line. Remember that this song was written at a time when cell phones didn't exist, only telephone lines, and it often happened that conversations were mixed up, linked, and that's precisely what this song is about, from 1984, which was included on the album AM-Visión. I sang and sang this song out loud, because I LOVED it (I still do a lot). Here are the two audio recordings, in the studio and live.
My third song today is the beautiful “NO SE QUITA”, which addresses a different topic, in this case the sadness of a breakup, comparing the persistent memory of that broken love to a stain on your pants that, no matter how many times you clean it, won't come off (a very curious analogy, but very apt). We can find it on the album from 1985 (a beautiful year), titled “JUEGOS DE AZAR”. I liked the catchy lyrics and music of this song; it's ideal for singing. Here I share the studio and live audio recordings. Enjoy!
