Feeling stagnated? Like nothing seems to be moving forward despite all of your effort?
We have all been in this position at some point in our lives and many people like to refer to it as “breaking point”. A point where you are not certain if moving forward is a good option but you have come too far to think of going back. At this point, some people choose to remain where they are, take time to recuperate before moving forward. I guess my question would be ; for how long?
I saw a podcast where the speaker kept hitting on the fact that “successful” people spend only fifteen minutes to recuperate and then they are back on track. Irrespective of what life throws at them—fifteen minutes is all they have to spare. They lose a loved one? Fifteen minutes. They hit rock bottom—fifteen minutes. This may seem very achievable until you are in a hard place and fifteen minutes can't just cut it.
I believe that when a person goes through something very heartbreaking, the feeling cannot just disappear at the snap of the finger. However, if we want to allow our minds to take charge of our decisions at this point, then things could get really bad. I say this because left to our minds, we would be laying in bed all day doing basically nothing doe days unend.
The best option is always to take a few days to recuperate before getting back on track. This doesn't mean that in a few days, all the underlying problems would vanish. No. But at least you keep striving with a new perspective. This is one reason why we have to try our best to be nice to people each day. They may be going through unimaginable things while still wearing a smile. A little trigger can cause such people to break down.
This reminds me of a story a friend narrated to me. It turns out that there was a girl in their dormitory who was the life of the party. She was always full of energy and ensured that everyone around her was well taken care of. One day, she was having her normal chit chat with a group of girls and suddenly she burst into tears after one of the girls said something random. Apparently her friend unknowingly said something that struck a nerve. This was when everyone came to know that the happy girl was actually going through a whole lot and she never told anyone about the things she was going through.
The first question I asked was “does this girl in question actually have friends?” because if she does, then her friends are not observant ones. Correct me if i'm wrong but last I checked, the essence of having friends is so that we have people we could share things with. Why bottle up these things instead? I have probably said this before but I will go ahead and say it again ; Having good friends is such a blessing! People who could stand by you when you're going through a hard phase in life without making you feel like you're a burden to them.
The song “Rise Up” by Andra Day reminds me of the essence of having good people around. This is because they give some form of hope. You may think the world is over but a good friend can always tell you that you have so much more to live for because the world doesn't end there. They encourage you to rise up. To do better. To keep striving.
