For the longest time, I believed that hair braiding was a skill I simply didn’t have. I carried this assumption with me, that braiding was something beyond my ability. I never really made an effort to try because I had already convinced myself that I couldn’t do it.
But then, when I had my first daughter, I had to give it a try because she insisted on me braiding her hair; she doesn't like anyone to touch her hair.
One day, I got tired of packing her hair with ribbons, so I tried braiding it. It was as if the skill had been there all along, quietly waiting for me to discover it. Looking back, I realize that sometimes we limit ourselves with beliefs that aren’t even true. We think we can’t until we try.
