Hello beautiful people.
What a pleasure it is to share my DIY project for 2024.
I am still enjoying my holiday as work officially commences on the 8th.
As a fashion designer, I love to think outside the box for myself and my client and knowing fully well that this is a new year I decided to play with paper, I thought of drawing a particular design I would love to rock very soon but then crafting it to me was the best bet as I felt it will be better interpreted in craft than in drawing.
I brought out a leftover cardboard I had in the house.
On it, I placed the tools I needed to bring my dream style to reality.
Compass
Ruler
pencil
Gum
Eraser
Scissors
I started by measuring the rectangle I wanted which is 30cm in length and breadth and then I folded it into two halves as seen in the collage.
I folded the equal halves in the form of a triangle for the two sides and then I manipulated the paper with many folding techniques as seen in the collage.
The dress I wanted to make is an off-shoulder ball dress with a fancy flare.
So I folded the upper bodice after folding it to my desired style, I manipulated the sleeve once again and here at the last part of the collage I have finally achieved the upper part of my dress, what's next?
The lower bodice so let's proceed!
I made a circle using my compass and pencil with no specific measurement though, I used my eyes to measure it and knew it was a perfect fit for my bodice and proceeded to cut it out.
I made three pieces of the circle and after cutting it out, I folded it like a cone and folded it again into two halves. I took my time to show you all how I folded the lower part in different ways to achieve what I wanted and I hope the pictures in the collage convey the message.
I folded the three pieces separately in the same way and here is the next thing I did, I brought out my gum to join the upper bodice to the lower bodice. I placed the first flare in the middle using my water gum and then placed the second on it and did the same for the third piece just to give it a fluffy and Cinderella effect.
To enhance my paper dress, I used golden trimming as an applique on the middle of the dress.
I cut a very little piece of it and joined it on the mid part of the dress using the water gum.
Tadaaaaaa...
My beautiful dress came out looking so beautiful.
Here is the front view of the paper dress.
And here is the back view of the dress.
What do you think about it? Is it fashionable? Is this something you can rock if it were to be on a fabric?
