Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
It's the weekend! I hope you're enjoying your time in lovely company, perhaps with a beer. As for me, I had a busy day mainly spent outdoors. Only now, in the evening, have I finally earned a little rest. Now that it's pitch dark outside, I'll relax with a cold beer in hand.
And what do I have to share with you for today's 358th #beersaturday? I'll happily open and empty two chilled bottles, one Croatian and one Slovenian.
At the end of this blog, there's another Poll for all you beer lovers. If you get a chance, you can answer it. Rewards will follow.
First, the one with less alcohol.
Vukovarsko Domaće
Brewed by K Pivovari, Vukovar, Croatia.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 4.5% ABV, IBU 28.
It's a Pale Lager-style, well-balanced beer without strong flavors. It's less bitter than German Pils but more hoppy than American lagers.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Vukovarsko domaće stands out for its clean appearance in the color of pale straw. Every true beer lover will be delighted by malts with a hint of sweetness and balanced hop flavors that leave only a slight bitterness in the mouth.
🍻
Microbrewery. I found the beer in the Rotor shop in Novalja, on the island of Pag, and I told myself, since I'm here, I'll take another craft Croatian beer.
The beer is light yellow and clear. The head is solid but disappears very quickly. It goes down the throat smoothly. I taste a slight malt sweetness and bitterness in the aftertaste, which quickly fades. And that's all.
The beer is drinkable but undistinguished. The bitterness of the hops only comes through at the end, and the sweetness of the malt is shy. In short, it's nothing special - a standard lager that doesn't stand out.
It's unavailable here, but in Croatia, where I'm often, I'd choose it over their industrial beers such as Ožujsko, Karlovačko, or Pan.
As I mentioned in the introduction, I was out all day. I was busy loosening the soil with the motor cultivator while my wife planted herbs.
We were in a hurry because rain is forecasted for tomorrow and the next few days.
Sage, thyme, rosemary, and more can be found, and herbs thrive best when flowers are around.
Let's move on, one more bottle to go :)
Time Out Golden Ale
Brewed by Pivovarna Artesian, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU N/A.
It's a Golden or Blonde Ale style, hop-forward, with some malty notes and average strength. Usually brewed with British ingredients.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Pale, unfiltered, and unpasteurized beer with a delicate bitterness and a hint of nectar, and with it, you can have a moment to yourself, anywhere, anytime.
🍻
As I found out, Artesian is just a brewpub, and it's a complementary activity on a farm where they are mainly involved in producing different oils. We will see what happens.
The beer is amber in color, with a solid head that disappears quickly. It smells of honey. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and on the palate, I taste the sweetness of the malt that dominates, a very discreet hop bitterness, and the taste of honey.
In the aftertaste, it all disappears quickly.
The beer is very drinkable. I don't think I've ever tasted anything like it. The sweetness and honey flavour dominate, but the hop bitterness is just a nuance. There's a very pronounced malt sweetness, but it's not distracting, as I have found in some others.
An interesting and unusual beer, the brewery is small and it's hard to get hold of. But it would be nice to have it in my fridge.
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beer? Something from yesterday's #newtunes post.
