The latest beer from Monyo Brewery from Budapest, Lazy Pirate Porter is also the last one left from the gift pack I bought in Hungary.
As I am going to Hungary for an extended weekend right after Easter, I will look for some more of their craft beer. I will be especially happy if I find a gift box with a glass, like the one I got when I bought this set, because I am left with a beautiful glass from this set.
Today, after a whole day's walk, we agreed with our neighbors to stop by their house for filled savory pancakes (which will be our lunch today).
Wanting to drink this remaining can, before bringing another one from Hungary, I took a can from my collection to my neighbor's house.
I had no idea how dark Porter would go with savory pancakes, so I tried it while the pancakes were baking.
I poured it into a glass that my neighbor gave me (I used to use glasses like this).
Almost without foam, this Porter beer from the Monyo brewery has a silky texture, it glides easily while you drink it.
In the taste you can feel sweet malts mixed with dried fruity notes.
Of the ingredients it only has water, barley malt. hops and yeast,
With pancakes filled with sausage, ham, cheese and sour cream, the sweet caramelized taste did not go well, so I decided to drink it after lunch.
This Porter has a rich red-brown hue and very little brown foam on top. The foam does not last long at all, but the color of the beer is really nice.
The smell is rich, a little sweet and a little caramel. A true English style porter aroma.
The taste of this beer is a little roasted, and even a little dry; with a little caramel sweetness. balanced for a porter.
The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with fairly high carbonation and decent creaminess.
Overall, an interesting beer, which I enjoyed after lunch.
