What's up BEER community! I'm happy to be back this week for #BeerSaturday, which would be week #412. Last week we reviewed the Andina beer from our sister city of Colombia. This time, we're staying in Venezuela with a very unique beer: Solera Kölsch.
If you've seen my previous beer reviews, they are every 3 or 4 weeks when I meet up with friends at the end of each month on Discord and we enjoy a beer night, but this time I was given a can of Solera Kölsch beer, a limited edition, to try this past weekend. So I said, "Why not?" So we decided to taste this interesting beer from the Polar brand, which we had already reviewed as the quintessential brand of Venezuela. But then, what is this Solera beer? This was a branch of the Polar brand launched in the mid-20th century and was thought of as a premium brand.
Its low sales led her to modify the formula of this brand and it was in the mid-90s that this reformulation of the Solera brand came out in presentations with a milder alcohol content: La Solera Light, gaining great popularity in the Venezuelan market, although I personally do not like light beers, however, the person who sent me this limited edition told me that I would not regret it because this beer had an alcohol content of 5.5% and a penetrating fruity aroma. So I decided to share it with my Discord friends in our usual Saturday night gatherings and although it was not thematic, I had to do it because leaving that beer in my fridge any longer would run the risk of my brother ending up drinking it!

So, we opened the can, and the first thing I noticed was that potent fruity aroma; it looked like a piña colada! For a moment, I was scared because this beer is supposedly inspired by Kölsch beer from Cologne, Germany, and I was worried that the fruity notes would distort or obscure some of the beer's true flavor! But that first golden appearance of the beer caught my attention, inviting me to take a good sip before harboring any prejudices.

Here in the tropics, the heat is at its peak; even at night, temperatures reach over 38°C. So, with my first sip of this wonderful beer, any doubts about it were dispelled. A smooth flavor at first, complemented by the freshness of its foam and that hint of bitterness at the end that I love in a good beer.

So I shared the image of my beer with my Discord buddies. They were surprised that the beer had an ABV of 5.5%. It's true that in Venezuela and many parts of the Caribbean, beers range in alcohol from 4% to 4.5%, so this beer lives up to its title of being a very exceptional beer. Although, since I'm already used to drinking beer with whisky to enhance its flavor, I'm more than used to it.
Well, friends, my final words about this beer are simply delicious! I loved this first impression with Solera Kölsch. Personally, I give this beer a solid 9/10, although some people may be put off by the penetrating fruity flavor, but for me, it's a perfect match. The other detail about this beer, and I suppose it's due to its limited availability, is how difficult it is to find in liquor stores. As I mentioned, this beer was given to me as a gift, and if it weren't for that, I wouldn't have been able to share this review with you. Que tal comunidad de BEER! Me alegra volver esta semana de #BeerSaturday, en la que sería la semana #412. La semana pasada reseñamos la cerveza Andina proveniente de nuestra hermana Colombia, en esta ocasión nos quedamos en Venezuela con una cerveza muy peculiar: Solera Kölsch.
Si has visto mi mis anteriores reseñas de cervezas son cada 3 o 4 semanas cuando me reúno con amigos cada final de mes en el discord y disfrutamos de una noche de cervezas, pero en esta ocasión me obsequiaron una lata de cerveza Solera Kölsch una edición limitada para que la probara este fin de semana que paso, así que dije ¿Por qué no? así que decidimos degustar esta interesante cerveza de la marca Polar que ya habíamos reseñado también como la marca por excelencia de Venezuela, pero entonces, ¿Qué es esta cerveza Solera? Esta fue una rama de la marca Polar lanzada a mediados del siglo XX y se pensó como una marca premium.
Sus bajas ventas la llevaron a modificar la formula de esta marca y fue a mediados de los años 90 que salió esta reformulación de la marca Solera en presentaciones con un grado alcohólico más suave: La Solera Light ganando gran popularidad en el mercado venezolano aunque a mi particularmente no me gustan las cervezas light, sin embargo la persona que me hizo llegar esta edición limitada me dijo que no me arrepentiría porque esta cerveza tenía un grado alcohólico de 5,5% y un penetrante aroma frutal. Fue así que decidí compartirla con mis amigos de discord en nuestras acostumbradas tertulias de los sábados en la noche y aunque no era temática tuve que hacerlo pues dejar esa cerveza más tiempo en mi nevera correría el riesgo de que mi hermano terminara bebiéndosela!

Así, abrimos esa lata y lo primero que noté fue ese potente aroma frutal, parecia una piña colada! Por un momento me asusté porque según esta es una bebida inspirada en la cerveza Kölsch de Colonia, Alemania y me preocupaba que con esas notas frutales se perdiera o distorcionara parte del sabor real de la cerveza! Pero ese primer aspecto tan dorado de la cerveza llamó mi atención, invitándome a darle un buen sorbo antes de albergar cualquier prejuicio.

Aquí en el trópico el calor esta en su punto más alto, incluso en la noche la sensación de calor esta por encima de los 38 °C así que al darle el primer sorbo a esta maravillosa cerveza se despejaron cualquier duda con respecto a ella, un sabor suave al principio, complementado con la frescura de su espuma y ese toque de amargor al final que me encanta en una buena cerveza.

Entonces le compartí la imagen de mi cerveza a mis compañeros del discord, les sorprendió que la cerveza tuviera un grado alcohólico de 5,5% y es cierto en Venezuela y también muchas partes del caribe las cervezas están en un rango alcohólico de 4 - 4.5% por lo que esta cerveza hace honra su título de ser una cerveza muy excepcional. Aunque como yo ya estoy acostumbrado a beber cerveza con whisky para potenciar su sabor ya estoy más que acostumbrado.
Y bien amigos, mis palabras finales con esta cerveza es simplemente deliciosa! Esta primera impresión con Solera Kölsch me encantó, personalmente puntúo esta cerveza con un sólido 9/10 aunque es posible que haya personas que el penetrante sabor afrutado pueda desencantarlos, para mi es un complemento perfecto. El otro detalle con esta cerveza y supongo que se debe a su naturaleza limitada, es lo difícil que es conseguirla en licorerías, como les dije esta cerveza me la obsequiaron y si no fuera así no les habría podido compartir esta reseña.
