Caturday – My First Encounter with “Caged Cats”

Hello dear #Caturday community,

This is my first time sharing with you, and I wanted to begin with something simple, real, and meaningful.

These photos were taken in Cuba, behind a store that sells in MLC. Surrounding the place, there is a wall with a metal gate that acts both as a door and a barrier. Behind it, I found them… a small group of kittens living in a curious kind of safety.

The spaces between the bars were wide enough for them to move freely, yet at the same time, those same bars protected them. No dog could easily get in, and no person could fully reach them either.

There was something striking about the moment. It felt as if they understood their position. They didn’t run away. They allowed me to come closer, calmly, almost with confidence… as if they knew I could see them, but not touch them.

That’s when a phrase came to my mind.

In Spanish, there is a saying: “Aquí hay gato encerrado” (something hidden is going on). But in that moment, my mind twisted it into something that made me smile:

“Gatos enrejados” (caged cats).

A small play on words, but one that captured the scene perfectly.

Sometimes, even in limitations, there is a strange kind of balance. They were not completely free, but they were not fully trapped either. Protected, yet distant.

That contrast stayed with me.

Thank you for welcoming this first post. I’m glad to start this journey with you.

Caturday – Mi primer encuentro con “gatos enrejados”

Hola querida comunidad #Caturday,

No huyeron.
