Recently I was asked, not once but twice, what is the deal with the Synergy Builders Community. I find that there is a bit of confusion around communities - namely that they have to "be" something - and what they mean technically on HIVE.
So today we will get into it, and talk all about my community, why I made it and what "it's for".
What's in a community?
Its not required to post to a community, you can post to "your blog", which is "nowhere". This is completely possible, and not much different to publishing to an empty or new community, except that its a data field that would be (and always was) empty.
Communities are a technical/protocol level development, and are actually HIVE accounts in and of themselves: which is why they cost 3 HIVE to create. Communities allow the stipulation of rules on an otherwise "open and decentralized" play field. In my community, I can expect to "make the rules", or at least define the culture. This is another layer to the HIVE cake.
I used to post in the Mancave Community, which I was made a moderator of, unless I had a post that fit especially well into another. As a (hu)man, I have many different interests, so a "man cave" of all the other things that didn't fit, seemed perfect to me.
Recently I made my own community, the Synergy Builders community. There are many communities, this one is mine. Now I have my own community where I can post anything that doesn't seem to perfectly fit in someone else's community.
Who can post here?
Well, anyone (who is a subscriber) can post in this community. I might not even notice right away. Generally, I have put two key words into the community: "Builders" and "Synergy". If someone were to stray too far from these things, I would probably ask them to use another community.
Since I have yet to establish any written rules, its possible an episode like this could cause me to write some. This is how development happens.
So in a sense you could say that this community, Synergy Builders, is my safe space. Where I go to write about whatever I feel like and nobody can tell me about "their rules".
Freedom and Friendship
I guess its relevant that the freedom part comes before friendship. I guess its easy to think that it used to be a lot more friendly around here, but the truth is there used to be a lot more people. There are still great friendly souls who take pictures of birds and shadows, share stories and arts and crafts, and generally cheer each other up.
For my part, I guess I am too overburdened with tokens and updates to think about "my blog" as much anymore. But it still makes me happy that when I go to post, there is a place that I can always be sure, will perfectly fit my post. Synergy Builders.
