We have thought long and hard about the idea of "RULES". I, as much as anyone probably, am not a person who enjoys so-called Rules-Lawyering, not being the lawyer or having the lawyer in the room. But the truth is, without rules, there is no game - a game is defined by its rules, which is why we talk about -
The Rules of the Game
These "top 2" rules have been heavily modified from the original repository - after much thought. Sure we might like to have different rules, to live in a world where when you write a rule, all the people would follow it "automagically", but we don't really live in that world, do we? Especially with added rewardification, there may be an incentive to "cheat", and cheat in ways that are hard to monitor.
Not only are we not eager to spend the rest of our lives monitoring hard-to-monitor things, I also cringe at the thought of catching just the accounts that are less good at pretending, and not punishing those accounts that are better at pretending they are not cheating.
So in that vein, we have opened up the rules. Do you want to multi-account? I can't stop you, we have log in with email. Do you want to "push"? The only limits to pushing will be determined by the top player, since everyone else is just catching up. Do you want to buy/sell/trade or haggle about these in-game resources? We are not going to stop you - we imagine that we live in a permissionless crypto-world anyway so I can't even imagine trying to become a blockchain detective to attempt to monitor the difficult-to-monitor stuff - all in the name of what is essentially a hobby - that is BUILDING A FUN GAME.
Botting
I am not sure there are bots in our game, but of course I did find some for ogame. GameForge, and their OGame, make a lot of money and have some incentive to become detectives and attempt to adjudicate things like this. We don't. We can't. It just doesn't make sense. But this is one area where we have drawn the line. If you are using automation - you must share.
We might not detect it at first, but if you are not sharing, we reserve the right to treat your account however we want. I will not enumerate our many options here, but we "the administration" could do many things - we will favor the things that support the most amount of FUN for the community of players.
Other rules
The other rules are the same, no "bashing", which is hard coded; going to war (hard coded) and "bug exploits" - which, while not hard coded of course, are pretty easy to detect - players are directed to report the bugs to us instead of using them for "profit", or face similar consequences as the above (aka whatever we decide).
And remember that our MOON game is open source - and the repository can be viewed here. Anyone can raise an issue, create a pull request, or other github related activity around this code base. We are happy to help, work to improve and collaborate with anyone around just about anything related to MOON - because that is "FUN".
Concerns?
Let me know all your questions, comments and concerns in the reply section below - this is "your game" as much as it is ours - we had a lot of fun playing Season 1, and are still enjoying playing post-season 1 and testing out our updates for Season 2 - including the RULES.
Let us know all your thoughts and feelings! These rules will go live on the site "soon".
