This is my entry for CCC's Street Art Contest Edition 201.
Howard is the 2nd busiest train platform in Chicago, Illinois and this mural is easily viewed from there while waiting for a train.
The artist is Sick Fischer (Chicago) and it is located at 1615 W. Howard St. It was completed in 2015.
The mural is titled 'Big Fruit' and I wonder if the artist had thoughts of the NYC slogan The Big Apple in mind.
Description:
From the very beginning, the mural’s intention was to radiate themes of ‘life’, ‘growth’ and ‘bright future’. The over-saturated aquamarine leaves and large red fruit are meant to evoke feelings of fertile soil. The very name of the mural, “Big Fruit”, is a play on the names given to other towns or cities. As if to say, “Howard Street, Land of the Big Fruit”, where people can settle, grow and happily sustain. Fischer also thought that the bold, lively color scheme would cut through the drearier winter days as commuters waited on the 2nd busiest train platform in the city.
