Yet another episode of shadow hunting. This time I ventured into hunting shadows at night. And I always find bringing that extra effect in shadows at night is more fascinating.
This is not a strainer but rather a sieve used to manually separate rice grain from undesirable materials like dirt or small stones.
These days this is not in use, but in rural areas, you would still find its widespread use, so you will see one such sieve in every rural household. My mom regularly uses this sieve.
I took these shots at around 9 PM at night yesterday, I used street light as the source.
Actually, the street light is so positioned that, it horizontally peeks through the opening and spreads the light in a limited area. Holding the sieve parallel to the ground ensures the light passes straight through, creating a shadow that mirrors the sieve’s grid. That's how I placed this object(hung it on the ceiling) to capture the profound shadow of this sieve.
The distance between the object and the surface upon which it casts a shadow also matters.
I have experienced that it should be kept closer so that the shadow does not blur out. A shorter distance reduces diffraction and scattering of light around the holes, preserving the shadow pattern’s clarity.
The evenly spaced small holes of the sieve create intricate and beautiful shadow patterns.
I have not edited any of these shots, keeping them in their raw form, so that the originality remains intact.
Shaodw's contrast depends on the light source and ambient light conditions. I always find having better control at night.
Learning and experimenting with physics............through shadow hunting....😀
