The Veranda Beach Project: Tiny Space, Big Summer Energy | Part Two

in Daily Blog4 days ago

Hello again, I am back with the next story of turning my veranda into a sand pit for my son. After spending the afternoon at the fish market, we are now ready for the real job! It was a great treat to makeover our humble corner into a barefoot escape. Also since this is a rented house, we couldn't make any permanent change, so we have to be creative on the process.

So we begin with cleaning up the area that we planned to use. It was a small corner near the gate where the owner put small stones so the rain drizzle didn't flood the floor. It was a nice part because my son and my husband pretended to be excavators that dig out the trench to remove all the stones. My son was very excited and even brought his dump truck to help out.

After the part cleaned up. Next we have to put the tarp as a foundation for the sands. The reason we need the tarp was to easily remove the sand pit when we need it and to cover it from rain as well. Also, we have a cat and sometimes, the strays also came by. We didn't one the sand pit became an emergency restroom for them right. Since the tarp need to cover the whole area, we put some strings so it can be tied up on the fence.

After the tarp lied down nice and tidy, then it came the most exciting part, dumped and arrange the sands and stones. We bought 2 bags of sand that weight about 14 kg and hope it will last a while because my boy must spilled them everywhere during the play time. Also a bag of stones that weight around 5kg for the dump truck loads.

Most importantly, we wanted him to be involved in the process. So he knew that everything need works to end well and a good result need a good effort too. We want him to appreciate the process even though he might not understand yet. Then it came to my favorite step, which was decorated the sands with dried coral, conch and sea shell. My boy didn't care much, he was already hauled the sands into his trucks friends. I also bought plastic sea animals to inhabit our beach. Well, the more the merrier right?

I was so happy and so satisfied with the results thought it wasn't really aesthetic. We had to think about logistic to create a permanent one and also consider about the hygiene and how to store the pit efficiently. And yeah, kids don't care, as long as they can play and they were happy when the parents are involved. The sight of him busily building his imaginary house really warm our heart.

This is the overall look of the sandpit. I only got the chance to take a picture at night after we done cleaning up and my boy was preparing for his bed time. What do you think? Not bad right?

Well thank you for stopping by and reading my post. I hope you have a pleasant and fruitful day. Warm greeting from the baby turtle! See you around...

I absolutely love this creative idea.. Honestly, the sandpit doesn’t have to be perfect.. it’s the fun and the memories that matter most.. And I’m sure your son had the time of his life playing with his dump trucks and sea animals..
