Growth Is Subtle, Until It's Not

Life has its ups and downs every time but if there’s one amazing things about life, it’s growth. To me, growth can be both intentional and unintentional and it’s a life long process. The person you were five years ago isn’t who you are today no matter how you convince yourself. A person who isn’t ready to grow, make changes to his life for the better and do better as an individual might as well be dead because what then would be his goal in life.

Every one of us has grown to some extent but obviously, we all are not on the same level in terms of our growth. I personally have grown so much over the years and funny enough, I like to think that there were some phases in my life that shaped me so well and fast as compared to others. A lot of things cause us to grow or change and sometimes we might not even know that we have grown because some situations force us to adapt quickly and unconsciously.

Looking back, there are so many things I look back to today and realize I have grown past. The first one would be the fact that I do not really care much about what people say anymore. We all have that phase in our lives when we become to self conscious, probably because we are at the peak of self discovery and we tend to take everything people say so seriously when it’s doesn’t really matter. Eventually, I came to learn that no one really cares about you and regardless of what you do, people are still going to talk so you’d be better off doing whatever makes you happy.

The next thing I’d consider growth on my part is my level of self discipline now as compared to then. Growing up, we somehow don’t know how serious things can get because we are just kids and so we just live as we should. But at some point things start to change and we need to adapt and grow. This is where discipline comes in. Your level of discipline in that moment and moving forward says a lot about your life and your future at large. Even now, my level of discipline wouldn’t be the same as some of my friends and colleagues because we all see life from a different perspective and that is the beauty of growth.

At the end of the day, all that matters is that you’re doing what is right for you and makes you happy while also make sure to not jeopardize your future.
