Not super exciting...but must be done

Let everyone sweep in front of his own door, and the whole world will be clean.

- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe -

In my #weekend-engagement topics concept this weekend one topic is about what people are doing over the weekend, you can see all the topics here and because I'm doing something super-exciting I thought I'd answer my own topic which I rarely do. So...what super-exciting things do I have planned?

It's right about now I should probably say that what I'll be doing this weekend isn't really super-exciting at all; having said that, someone may think it is I suppose.

This weekend I'm...

Cleaning

I've been super busy over the last few weeks - nope, not telling you why - and a few things have had to take a backseat in preference of other more important priorities. So, this weekend I'm catching up on cleaning a heap of things and it's not super-exciting at all. I'll admit to getting a really great feeling from having clean stuff but the process of cleaning isn't something I enjoy much at all I suppose; but what am I cleaning you ask? Here's the list:

  • My truck (4x4) - It's a big thing (a ladder is required to reach the top of the roof) and it takes somewhere between three and four hours to wash and dry it, I'm very thorough, and I do the wheels (and tyre shine) and interior as well. It's not super-exciting but it feels good to stand back and behold the sparkling magnificence that is my truck once it's done.

  • Firearms - I have loads of these and am always cleaning something because I'm always shooting them. Usually I clean my firearms immediately after having used them but with other things to focus on there's six that have escaped cleaning for almost a month. (Shameful I know.) It's messy, smelly (gun solvent and oil smells terrible) and there's not much difference visually when it's done, so not super-exciting, however having it done and my firearms in a ready-to-operate condition is important to me so I do it. The situation could be worse, I could have to clean all my firearms which would take a long time...so six is ok, it'll take me five to six hours or so.

  • My daily vehicle - Yep, more car washing. My truck is on Saturday and Sunday I'll do one of my other vehicles. It's a smaller SUV (compared to my truck) so not too bad (no ladders to reach up to the top of it are needed) and I reckon I'll be all done in an hour including the wheels, tyres and interior.

  • My home office - Have you ever seen a room after a hand grenade has been thrown in and exploded? Hmm ok, my home office isn't quite that bad but it's well in need of a clean up. Papers, tax stuff mostly but some work things also, are the main culprit (I'm actually the culprit) but I want to clear off all the monitors, cables and other things for a proper dust and clean, then wipe over everything (the books and mementos and keepsakes from my life) that sit around the place and clean the floors too, solid timber floorboards. It's not going to be super-exciting but, like with my vehicles, I always feel better when my home office is sparkling, organised and clutter free. There's about two hours work here, three if I stop for coffee and snacks...which I will.

  • The pantry - This is something I do every couple of weeks because I don't like stuff (food) sitting around too long. I have a pretty organised pantry and use air-tight containers to store things that have been opened like cereal, nuts, cookies, herbs and spices and other stuff like most people do I guess. I also seem to get myself into strife with all the containers when they're empty so cleaning also means marrying up containers with the right lids, straightening them out, stacking and all. It's also a good time to take stock of what I may need to replenish so I don't run out or buy more than I need. There's around an hour of work here...and because it's the pantry I tend to snack along the way...which I will.

  • Fuck all else because I think that's enough for one weekend!

That's the list and while it's not a super-exciting way to spend a weekend I'll get a sense of accomplishment once I'm done. I'd rather be out off-roading, hiking, hunting, cuddling on the couch with my partner...anything but cleaning, but despite it not being super-exciting sometimes cleaning must be done.

You got a lot of cleaning ahead of you. Especially the time to take care of your 4x4. I need to get my truck washed soon. although it doesn';t get driven much anymore, it has collected a lot of dirt and stuff around the fenders from when it was driven in the rain last.

When we were first married, the wife and I used to clean our little apartments and houses on Sundays. As our houses got bigger and kids came in the picture and got older, we stopped doing it. Now we have an empty nest I might see if she wants to go back to doing it. It was kind of a special thing, we would get up whenever on Sunday, have breakfast, then commence to whooping it on together. When we were done, we would order pizza or something like that and snuggle in front of some movies for the rest of the day.

My partner and I clean the house (inside and out) together and don't mind those ranking days. We tend to do a little each day or so which means it doesn't mount up but we have a big cleaning day every couple weeks as well. She doesn't help with the vehicles, she's not up to my standard there, but she sits out and chats with me when I work.

I think it's nice to do those things together, as with you and your wife, and it makes the relaxation time, in a lovely clean home, feel nicer.

That is great you two do that together and share in the chore. Heck I bet it helps time pass washing the truck even if she just sits and chats with you.

If it's hot and she's got a bikini on the car washing takes way longer. 😉

I bet it does.

I need to get my truck cleaned too, but I will probably wait until the weather cools down a bit. It has been brutal here lately (compared to our average), so I have been spending a lot of my time inside. I did get the lawn mowed yesterday and it looked like I had just went swimming when I was finished!

Inside with the AC on is the best place to be when it's hot. I was freezing my fu lcken nuts iloff washing my truck today but it sparkles now and it was worth it.

I just ran outside to start up the grill to smoke some turkeys, and it's not too bad out right now, but they are saying temps in the 90's today. That's part of the reason I am doing the poultry so early.

You have a whole lot planned out for yourself this weekend, pal. I have never felt cleaning as a chore though, to me it is more of an opportunity to get a chance for peace and quiet thinking.
For the past few months my weekends has been occupied with cleaning activities, as I am mostly busy with school activities during the weekdays, but this weekend gave me an opportunity to relax and refresh myself, because I had some free time during the weekday to complete my cleaning routine.
I am really happy about the weekends, cause, when do you get to relax or have a whole to yourself.
Anyways, enjoy the fruit of your labor this weekend. ✌️

Liking the things we have to do makes a lot of sense, happy cleaning.

Thank you, it does make a lot of sense and makes the work seem easy.

I'll admit to getting a really great feeling from having clean stuff but the process of cleaning isn't something I enjoy much at all

This is a classic 😂

I find all this cleaning you are doing super exciting. I love to do it with company. When I'm alone, which is most of the time.... You know what happens to me? I start cleaning and I don't know why at some point something takes me away from cleaning. Haha... something catches my attention and I get distracted from the main goal of the day. The cleaning scheduled for 3 hours takes 8. Hahaha... terrible, G. 🤣

You need someone to keep you on-mission huh? Easily distracted? I get it...sometimes it's easy to find ways to avoid that which we don't want to do. 😉

😂 That's the idea! 👏🏻 Yes. Someone to keep me on the mission.

Or...someone to lead you astray depending on your mood.

The summary is a guide... It doesn't matter where it's for hahaha....

Lol.

Lots of things to be done for a weekend I'd say! But I have to agree on the cleaning part. Even if it's not the most exciting and fun activity one can have, the results are definitely a bliss for each one of us, aren't they?!

It's the results that make the hard work worth the effort.

Absolutely!!

Every Saturday for me is for cleaning 😂

Every Saturday is the same shit show of me grumbling at how dirty the house always gets😂😂

Yet later in the afternoon when everything been swept, wiped, mopped and washed... It does look, feel and smell good😂✨

Every Saturday? Bloody hell, I reckon that'd drive me bonkers. I tend to do stuff here and there during the week but with being so busy and all I've not really had the chance.

Happy Saturday cleaning!

It looks like you'll be pretty busy, all that takes a lot of work and you'll be doing a lot of it.

My weekend after two days of 40 degrees, will consist of recovering, cleaning, shopping for the week, housework, and some night out.... what I can tell you is that Sunday is not planned hahaha, only Saturday.

I also do the pantry regularly and the desk at home, you reminded me that I have some things that shouldn't be there hahaha.

Cleaning is life. #cleanlife

Ok, not really. It helps make life better though right?

Cleanliness and tidiness does help in life, I'm working on it!

That's a lot of cleaning over the weekend. But I get it, since I'm a bit similar. If I'm going to clean, I might as well clean all day. Having just one clean area and leaving others dirty doesn't really make things look that much better. Good luck on your cleaning.

Cleaning is in progress...but one must stop for snacks which is what I'm doing right now. 😀

I agree, breaks are important, and fuel [snacks] even more so.

I loved your weekend activity, to tell you the truth I didn't know how long it takes to wash any vehicle, but definitely seeing them shiny is nice, and also the office, wires and small things that are not usually in the everyday cleaning. It's great that even if you don't enjoy it, you can still do it. And keep up with your firearms, even if we don't know what's keeping you so busy, it's a challenge to keep up the pace so you don't get bogged down with tasks

I hope your weekend is over and not too exhausting! 😅

I have a high operational tempo whether at work in my professional life or in my personal life; it helps me get a lot done. That doesn't mean I don't know how to relax though, just that when I'm focused I'm focused and get things done. I don't really enjoy cleaning but it's worth it for the end result.

Have a nice weekend.

Hi Galen, cleaning certainly doesn't sound like the most fun for a weekend , but it is clearly necessary. In my case, I will be now a rare in Hive, and then I will organize the week. A task that takes me a few hours, but this way I start the week knowing what I have to do each day and what I need. Then maybe I'll watch an old movie....

It's about balance and attention to the important things I think, life I mean. So many people defer to the enjoyable aspects of life or fail to work on those parts of life that are onerous which is why things don't get done as well as they should or at all. I'm not that way in lined and tend to do us on what has to get done, what should get done and what I want tonge t done before I sit back and relax. It's about ownership and responsibility, and discipline.

I hope you're well and you have a nice Sunday when it arrives.

Hi Galen, It's already Sunday around here and all is well, now I'll take a walk. You are right about what you say about the balance. I can't imagine an independent life, without living off others, without effort and devoting time only to the pleasant things in life.
I hope you have a good Sunday afternoon and evening.

My Saturdays are usually hectic and stressful cause I use my Saturdays for environmental services taking care of my sorrounding, tiding up the house, washing of clothes and prepare for the week ahead

A good way to spend Saturday huh?

Yea Saturdays are the days I clean too, and do my laundry. I agree with you that there's that sense of accomplishment when you step back and see everything squeaky clean and glittering once again.
Enjoy your fun(work) day!

I love a clean and tidy house, office, car, guns, pantry...everything really. I just feel better about stuff; that doesn't mean I love cleaning though. 😐

Happy Saturday cleaningday.

This week's topics are really nice.
My entry loading....

Ok.

Wow! You have a whole lot of stuff to clean. But wouldn't it relief of some stress if you get into a car wash for the car cleaning while your female partner helps in cleaning the pantry?

I prefer to do it myself, car washes don't do a good job.

You are write! It only people with this kind of mindset that can take care of their properties well. A lot of people prefer paid services even if it cost them losses. That what laziness does. Keep going, you are good. 😀

The major part of our house that needs cleaning is the basement. It has way too much junk in it, most of which I'd be happy to part with, but my wife not so much.

Most people hang on to far more than that should.

Indeed they do. I think I would be a minimalist if not for my wife and son.

Hey, it's been brought to my attention, by @hivewatchers, that you've been plagiarizing at some point. That's pretty disappointing to find out to be honest.

I'm not sure when it happened or why you did that however I don't condone plagiarism or support plagiarists, and downvote it pretty hard when I see it. Can you talk me through what happened and confirm that you've ceased that behaviour?

I posted some old stuff that I had originally posted on another website that I no longer belong too. I didn't know that was frowned upon.. or is it? Maybe I should have mentioned it earlier in my post?

I don't set the rules but considering the effort I've put into Hive (this is my eighth year) and what I've done to help create a nice space for people to enjoy I don't take kindly to those who seek reward for recycled or plagiarised work.

I'd say, just ensure that anything you do is your own original work which should see you avoid any complications.

It is my own work, that I promise. But I will be sure to only publish new stuff here that has not been posted else where from now on
