When Claire married Juan they dreamt of a happy home till death do them part. Juan was young and energetic when he got married to Claire and their union was blessed with two kids, a boy and a girl.
Like a man that wants the best for his family Juan was hardworking. He does everything legal to make ends meet. He was a peasant farmer and also was into palm oil business.
Every market day, it was either he sold his plantains, when they are in season or he was trading with the palm oil which he either dispose of the stored ones or he was restocking and waiting for the price to drive up before selling them. Such was his routine.
But one fateful market day, Juan woke up as usual and prepared his bicycle loaded with plantains. His dutiful wife Claire prepared hot breakfast for him which he gladly ate and zoomed off.
Juan hewed that the tax collectors were on the way. He hasn't paid for sometime now. His bicycle license had also expired; he was yet to renew same too.
To avoid the embarrassment of the tax collectors and his bicycle confiscated by them he decided to follow the old and abandoned road to the market. If they get him he knew his income will be massively impacted on.
Unknown to Juan that the tax collectors had also blocked that abandoned old road he rode his bicycle confidently and when he ran into them at the top of a knoll he panicked and forcefully applied his brakes but then it was already too late. His brakes failed him and that action also triggered the speed of his bicycle descending the knoll. He panicked and cursed the tax collectors. As he kept descending down the knoll on high speed he ran into other people also packed there and the resulting crash was fatal and unimaginable.
Juan could not make it alive after that crash. Claire looked at him when he was brought back and wept uncontrollably. Her final words when he was laid to rest was: "you've gone to the land of no more stress honey! Rest on!!!.
Her earlier dreams with Juan had been cut short. She cried uncontrollably.
