Autumn Plein Air**
*"no preamble today"* — someone
There is something magical about painting outdoors in autumn. The golden leaves, crisp air, and soft light create a perfect setting for creativity. This particular plein air session took place in a quiet rural area surrounded by fields and fading summer colors. The tall, slender bell tower in the distance was the focal point of our view — standing proud against the cloudy sky.

We arrived early in the morning, the sky still overcast with hints of blue breaking through. The weather was cold and slightly damp, but spirits were high. Everyone brought their own set of materials: watercolor palettes, sketchbooks, brushes, folding easels, and even snacks to keep us warm and energized. The back of a car served as both a storage space and, for one artist, a makeshift studio. It was humorous and practical at the same time — art truly adapts to any environment.

The field where we set up was freshly ploughed, and the earth’s dark, rich color contrasted beautifully with the yellows and oranges of the surrounding trees. One artist started with a simple pencil sketch of the tower and tree line, carefully measuring proportions and perspective. Another jumped straight into color, laying bold washes of purple sky and golden trees with confident strokes. The landscape came alive with every brushstroke.

The wind occasionally rustled the grass, adding a soft soundtrack to our work. Birds flew overhead, and every once in a while, a passerby would slow down to observe our creative process. Despite the cold, there was warmth in the atmosphere — the kind that comes from shared purpose and admiration for nature.

As the day went on, the sky began to shift, casting patches of sunlight across the fields. Shadows deepened, colors brightened, and our paintings evolved with the light. Some captured the mood of the stormy sky, others focused on the rich textures of the landscape.

Plein air painting in autumn is not just about capturing scenery — it’s about capturing a feeling, a fleeting moment where nature, weather, and emotion meet on canvas. We left with cold fingers and muddy shoes, but also with artworks full of life and the memory of a perfect day spent doing what we love.
That,s all for today. Stand by
