Citizens of a country have every right to know what's happening in their country but to my own opinion, they don't need to know everything.
Yes we have all the right to know about the economic situation of our country, how the country is making progress, the set backs in the economy, the loans the government is taking, the plans the government have for its people and the list goes on and on like that. The citizens needs to know all these things, so as to be informed of what's happening in their country, the way forward and how to come in if need be.
The government really needs to be transparent in their dealings, if not, the people will think or feel they're being cheated on, which might be true. Where there's transparency, there's possiblity of a good governance, a situation whereby the government carry the people along, there will be no cause for alarm but reverse is the case in my country, there's little or no transparency. Whenever they call someone to come and give account of how they spent the money given to them to solve a particular problem, to take care of the people under them, or for infrastructure, that's when you see them fainting and throwing all kinds of stunts, giving all sort of ridiculous excuses which cannot be acceptable in places where there's good governance.
There was a time the government said snake swallowed money, not even a small amount of money, millions of naira, how's that even possible, how did a very big snake get into where they keep money and then did not bite anyone but went straight up to swallow money, that's a very big lie in my opinion, but yet they were able to get away with it, since we have lots of bad leaders that are always ready to cover their ass, so no one to question them.
The day I watched the interview of that man that fainted, the moment he was trying to give account, I knew it was all planned, it's just very obvious but then what can we do? absolutely nothing, we can't prosecute them because they have their ways already and if you try to push further, your life and that of your family might at stake. Moreover, any moment the youth rise up to protest against bad governance, we're always being maltreated, beaten and killed. To my own opinion if we're not allowed to express our feelings, the bad governance will definitely continue.
Very soon, youth wants to gather again for another protest come next month, I see another version of Endsars part two, bloodshed especially bloods of innocent people.
However, as much as we have the right to information, to know what's happening in our dear country, we still don't need to know everything, somethings needs to be kept private for the betterment of the citizens. For example the security strategies against those terrorizing the peace of the country, like the bandits and the rest of them, sharing things like this to the general public won't yield any positive result but damage things, as the enemies will already know the plans the country is having towards them.
So I'll say we as citizens needs to know all we need to know that's going in the country but then not everything, some things needs to be kept private for our own good.
