Governing a country is one of the most complicated job or Work to run, it can be so sensitive that any slight mistake in policies, mistake in decision by the Government or people in power or even the slightest of information or Misinformation can cause unrest in the society.
Information is power, any knowledge or information or any thing you are aware of or any thing you know have the capacity of causing an action or a reaction in you.
This is why Mass media is so much powerful In our society.
Our Social media is so much effective now in carrying news in seconds, even more than radios, TVs, and newspapers.
Any unregulated news passed can be manipulated, compromised or used for the Enemies of the Country's Advantage, don't get me wrong, you as a citizen have the right to information, but not just every information, some information that deals with Secret Services, soldiers or Special forces operations needs not reach the ears of citizens.
Here are things you need to Know a citizen in any country
You need to Know the Rules and Law of your Country
Yes law, this can't be overemphasized, You cannot ignore it. As a citizen should be aware of your countries constitution. Just knowing the basic law or the country, be familiar with some of your Constitutions. Here in Nigeria like 70% (seventy percent) of the people don't even know their basic laws, their rights and rules of the society even as the educational systems and others parties have really tried to keep the citizens aware.
If you the at least the basic law, it can save you when the need arises.
Be Politically Aware
This is a very important aspect that every citizen should know, follow up your government, know them, . You will be in touch with its activities and aware of what policy implementation are done. This are few basic things who know it might be useful for you.
Some people in my local government area here don't even know their local government chairman, even the councilors and those representing their constituents, all this are some of the basic prominent political people that the people should know in the local level.
** Know Geography (Know places in the Country)**
People so much downplay the role of Geography, the totally forgot that Geography too plays a major role in the Citizens awareness of his or her country. Make it like a monthly or Yearly routine to go around the states or places in your locality.
Economy
Get to know the economic condition of your country. It doesn't necessarily mean you will go in deep details like statistics and countries share graph. Things like your currency's net value in world, Prices of daily essential commodities. All this information can easily be gotten on the internet, just search for them and they will be provided for your use.
Culture
Finally your culture. Your Culture reflects the reality of your society. You represent your culture and you should be aware of it. Not evrything but atleast basics.
In a country like Nigeria, where the are cultural Diversity, knowing about them if not all but some of the cultures will help you as a citizen.
In conclusion:
if I am governing a country, there will be access to 24/7 news and information,but not every news would be available for the general public and there would be regulations on social medias so as to curb Misinformation and Fake news.
