As Myles Munroe of blessed memory often said, "When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable." This truth applies powerfully to social media today. The widespread misuse we see happening- and all the discussions about it was bound to happen because we're trying to fight the symptoms without understanding the root cause.
People come to social media for many different reasons. Some come to learn, others to relax. Some want to express their creativity, while many unfortunately come to deceive others. This confusion about why we have social media in the first place is exactly why we're seeing so much abuse.
So what is social media's true purpose? In my view, social media is gradually replacing traditional education. I believe that in the coming century - maybe the next hundred years - your social media presence and activities will become the new measure of your education. The information people get from social platforms will make much of today's school curriculum obsolete.
We're moving toward a future where schools as we know them may disappear, replaced by multiple social media platforms where anyone can become a teacher through their content. For many, this will become their primary way to earn a living.
Even in this future, some abuse will still occur. But by then, we'll likely have better systems in place - similar to what we see on Hive Blog's blockchain platform where bad content creators can be blacklisted, muted, or have their earnings reduced. These controls are necessary because, when purpose isn't clear, abuse will happen.
Now, should we fight against all the fake news and harmful content on social media? The truth is you can't fight every offender. The responsibility lies more with the platforms to create systems that maintain quality and truth.
But here's what each of us can do: If you have good, truthful content to share, you must share it. Every piece of quality content you put out means one less harmful piece reaching someone. If you're holding back your good content, you're allowing the darkness to spread. Your posts, videos, songs - they matter more than you realize. The next generation needs your light.
Just like I commented a post earlier, there is no need to warn them. Greed often has its untold events.
This is where I'll end my thoughts. Thank you for your time.
