When I was in a school their was one big wooden Almira in one room of school. I was wondering what is inside. And time passed and one day I come to know about that the big wooden Almira is actually storage for books that belongs to the school library. I was in government school and their was not a separate big library but what we had was a wooden Almira full of books. I always love to read the story, frictional, history and science related books. When I come to know that we have one Almira full of different books and immediately asked the teachers responsible for maintaining the library to issues the books. The teacher told me that the books are not arranged and the Almira was not opened form many years. She asked us for help to arrange the books and numbering them as per record. I also getting opportunity to explore the books available so we immediately start working on same. We opened the library and taken out all the books and checked the condition of each book and short them into two category one which can take back in library and second which were not in a condition to include in library list. It took more then one week for us as we were not doing the work for full time but to be honest I was happy to know that we have a library and we can borrow the books of our interest. During the collage time we also have a library in the collage but it was containing mostly the technical books and also some magazines. We use to borrow technical books and many time read the magazines in free time. I still remember how we borrow the DVD comes with the electronics and computer magazines to try new software.
In today's digital world every thing is converting into digital form and library and books are not an exception. It is a demand of today's time also. The pandemic also teach the world many things and working from distance or work from home was also one of them. If the work can be done using the technology them why the library can not be digitized. The idea is very effective as you do not need to physical go to the library to access the books. The digital books can be accessed from any part of world, you only need a working hardware mobile, laptop or computer etc and a working internet connection. Now days the internet is very easily available to everyone and the sped is also very good. So connection is not an issue and content stored in big library can be stored in a small device.
The eBooks, eMagazines and ePaper are very common now days but I still feel that the digital conversation is not a complete replacement or solution of library and physical books.
The environment we get in the library is very effective for doing the study. Its very important that we must be in a quiet place where we can concentrate on the study and library is perfect place for same. May be many of us think that it's easy to read a book on mobile and we can check the same at any place and any time. But do not forget that the mobile has other applications then books also. The notification from all other applications are become the reason of distraction. The online content is available to all of us and it's easy to access. But here my big concern is the authenticity of the content available. A book available in the library is written by a well known writer so the information available is also authentic but anyone can post any information or misinformation on internet and that becomes the reason of wrong information. Libraries are the big source of the authentic information in past and will be in future also. I am not saying that we do not go for the digitalization of content but still feel the libraries are must requirement.
