Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a great leader and worrier. Maharaja was born on November 13th, 1780 in Gujranwala and died on June 27, 1839. He was the founder of the Sikh kingdom of the Punjab. His father Maha Singh was the leader of Sukerchakia Misl, this was the time when the Punjab has been fragmented into number of groups i.e Sikh (which was known as the Misls), Hindu and Muslims. The Durrani took control of the major part of Punjab. The Maharaja Ranjit sing was the first who grouped all the Sikh misls and united them to form the Sikh kingdom. He united all, form the army and conquest of Durrani empire. He expended his empire and their was time when territories of Multan, Kashmir and Peshawar were in his control. During his rule the British was not able to took over the Punjab despite the fact that British were ruling almost all over the India. At the age of 10 he fought his first battel along with his father. He was in his early teenage years when his father died and he become the leader of Misl. At the age of 21 he captured the Lahore. He was the great leader and was a kind person also. Their was many stories of him in which he helped the poor people. Today I will share such one story of him.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh was so kind that he always try to help the needy person. He was so kind that the people start calling him the Paras Pathar (philosopher's stone or wonder stone). Paras Pather is one which has the capability of converting the iron into Gold. I do not know if such stone exist or not, this is not the topic of discussion. One day the Maharaja was passing through the streets of city along with his soldiers. Hew as riding a horse and other soldiers were marching with him. This was the time when people can meet freely to the ruler and describe their problems and difficulties. when they were passing though the streets of city a old lady come to the Maharaja. The old lady was poor and anyone can observed form her condition. The soldiers try to restrain here but when the Maharaja saw it she asked the soldiers to release her. The old lady come near to the Maharaja and opened her bag. she take out the iron pan form the bag and start rubbing the same on leg of maharaja. Every one seen was surprised even the Maharaja also. He asked politely to the lady what she s doing. She reply that all people called the Maharaja the Paras Pather, and Paras Pathar has the capability to convert the iron into Gold. I am very poor and I want to convert my Iran pan into Gold so that I can also live a wealthy life. The Maharaja underhand what she wan to convey, he smiled and orders the soldiers to take the iron pan form the lady and give her the Gold equal to the same weight of the Iron Pan. Her was really a Paras Pather.
Their was one more story abot him which I read during my childhood. One day the Maharaja was going though the streets of city. When he was passing by a tree of desert apple. Some kids were playing near the tree and some of them were trying to pick the fruit form the tree using small piece of stone. One kid throw the stone and unfortunately it hit the Maharaja. All kids get scared and run away. The soldiers caught all of them and present infront of the Majaraja. They all were scared as they assume that the Maharaja will punish them. But to opposite to that Maharaja asked the soldiers to release all kids and also ordered them to arrange the fruits for all kids. All were surprised, Maharaja clarified - When those kids throw stone on three, the three give them the fruits. If the tree can give them the fruit even after hitted by the stones them why not I. This shows the kindness and big heart of the Maharaja.

I shared those two stories, so that we can compare him with today's politicians. The situation is completed opposite, politicians do not come to the common people to understand their difficulties and problems. They only show their faces just before the election. Maharaja always help the needed peole like he helped the poor lady but today's politicians just care about their selves. Imagine if any politician get hurted by like Maharaj hut by stone thrown by kids. The politician do not care about that the action of the kid was intentional or unintentional.

Yes we lack this type of leadership in politics today. Instead of turning iron to gold everyone looks to rule with an iron fist
