Imperfectly Perfect: The Beauty of Human Diversity

in Hive Learners2 days ago (edited)

Looking around the world today, you agree that the world strives to create a balance in all aspects, where there is bad, there will be good, and also ups and downs. The seemingly bad might not always turn out to be so bad after all. What I'm trying to focus on is that perfection is overrated, and so is the idea of genetic modification of babies before they are born. At the same time, it might seem like a great improvement in science, I mean, you get to choose how perfect you want your child to be, with intelligence, great physical attributes, no autoimmune or genetic disorder, etc, we can't deny the fact it will also lead to a lot of consequences and ethical dilemmas.

To start with, there is no doubt that such modification will come at a huge cost, making it not affordable for the middle or lower class, so such opportunity would be made available for only the wealthy ones in the society, therefore bridging the gap more between the rich and the poor, also making them feel like god because they now have the power of creation,

Still, when we look around us, seeing so many adults and children suffer from genetic disorders such as autism, even though these children are loved no doubt, their loved ones get to suffer a lot, emotionally and financially trying to take care of their child, if at all genetic modification becomes a thing, it should be made accessible for everyone, and rather than for parents to greedily select the traits and genes they want for their child, these modifications should rather be focused on modifying or erasing life-threatening or emotional draining genetic disorders, leaving the children as they are with their respective traits, no one is perfect and that's what makes our world perfect because somehow, we all need each other to survive.

We are yet to arrive at that point where genetic modification is a common thing, yet we have parents who put so much pressure on their children to be perfect, then imagine them having to select these perfect genes before they are born, this could lead to a culture of perfectionism, and further increased expectations and pressure on children to live up to their genetically modified potential.

And what about the children who are not fortunate enough to get this modification before birth, they would be stigmatized as imperfections, making them feel inferior, therefore creating more imbalance in the world.

God made us all wonderfully, irrespective of the genes we end up with, I believe that power shouldn't be taken over by men, as we are insatiable beings and would often tend to go overboard with it.

The transition from male to female and vice versa BBL surgeries and other cosmetic surgeries, we see people who can afford them go under the knife every day to get their "perfect" body, while some are successful, we also know that some are terrible fails.

Ethically, it's a big NO!
