Zoos and wildlife recreational parks have one thing in common and that is, they are places for caring for wild animals. A zoo is not as big as a recreational park but it is still a safe haven fir animals.
Basically, we understand that wild animals are animals that cannot be domesticated and not necessarily because they are dangerous. I stumbled upon a video on #Youtube where I saw a woman playing with adult lions. According to the narrator, she grew up with the lions when they were cubs and evem though she travelled out of the country to school, the liions never forgot her.
Immediately the lions set eyes on her, you need to see how they pounced on her happily. I was scared initially until i heard the narrator explain what was happening. Lions can be taned but it is not advisable. Wild animals are animals that should not be kept in the confines of a home. Hence, the importance of zoos and recreational parks for these creaures.
As far as I know from personal experience, zoos run on finances and most of these finances are gotten through gate fees charged on customers who want to see wild animals. If not for zoos and recreational parks, some of these wild animals would not be existing today.
There are illegal hunters out there called poachers who kill these animals for selfish reasons and benefits. In fact, I recall reading an encyclopedia many years ago where it was written that some animals are already extinct.
When I visited a zoo, I was very happy to see lots of animals that I only saw in movies. Animals like Peacock, Camel, horse, Baboon, Chimpanzee, tortoise, Pythons, Crocodiles and a dead embalmed lion.
I was happy to see these animals in real time and it's all thanks to having a zoo around. I don't believe keeping animals in a zoo is exploitation for entertainment. I believe it is a form of a safety measure, to protect the animals from selfish humans and also to protect humans from dangerous animals. Although, there might be some animals who try to show off in front of people and that serves as a form of entertainment but other than that, I don't think keeping animals in zoos or recreational parks is exploitation.
Like I stated earlier, animals in the wild are endangered. If not from poachers,it could be from harsh weather conditions beyond control. Faced with these, keeping animals in zoos provides them with safety, care, timely nourishment and medical attention when needed.
Some people might disagree with animals being kept in cages the way it is done in zoos but I am of the opinion that it is for the best and safety of the animals. Of course, zoos and recreational parks cannot keep all the wild animals in one place. Soyua means that there will still be some animals that will be left in the wild to roam free but this does not dilute the significance of zoos.
Preserve tand protect hose animals that need it while allowing others to roam free is my motto. Poachers and those who want to use these animals for monetary exploitation should be dealt with.
