Namaste to all fungi hunters!
After almost a year, I am back with some unique and beautiful photos of fungi as part of the #FungiFriday initiative, which @ewkaw has been running nonstop on this blockchain for the last eight years, which is a great achievement in itself. 👏👏
It took me almost a whole year to come back, as the favourable weather for the fungus to grow here occurs only during these particular months of the year, when the monsoon starts in July and heavy rains bring respite from the scorching heat.
Well, you know that I am not an expert myself, so I use Google Lens to gather information related to any picture. So now when I asked Google Lens about this picture, I found out that this white round shaped mushroom is a member of the Agaricus Bisporus family and this is the same family whose button mushrooms are grown the most in India.
They are low in calories and fat but rich in essential nutrients like vitamins B vitamins D, and antioxidants, supporting overall health.
However, I find the look of this particular mushroom a little different from the traditional button mushroom. Traditional button mushrooms are quite perfectly rounded, and this one is not properly round. This is also a reason why I did not bring it home, relying on Google Lens, because last season, many knowledgeable users here had told me that if you are not 100% sure about mushrooms, then stay away from them because mushrooms can prove to be very dangerous.
This cute little Japanese hat-like mushroom is a member of the Coprinopsis family. I did a little research on it and found that almost all mushrooms in this family look similar, except for their colours.
I tried to take a picture of its gills from inside, but even after multiple attempts, it came out blurry; this is where my phone camera failed.
One thing is special about this mushroom: although it is not poisonous, eating it with alcohol can make it poisonous. This means that if you want to enjoy it while drinking alcohol with your friends, it can be fatal. Here, I will repeat the most important lesson I learned last season: if you are not 100% sure about mushrooms, then forget about consuming them and avoid getting too close to them.
