Greeting to everyone in GEM community, hope you had a good week. Was doing my grocery run today and wanted to check out if a particular supermarket had completed its renovation (the supermarket was closed for 2 months) as I missed some of the goodies that can only be found here. I am really glad that it is finally reopened and it packed an additional surprise which I will be discussing more in today's post.
Typical supermarket will be just a place where it consist of rows and rows of good ready for purchase and at most there will be maybe 1 or 2 externally managed eateries or fast food joint. But for Singapore due to space limitation, supermarkets typically operate independently without additional food places found within.
I am thankful that the supermarket that just renovated now comes with dining options for one to dine within the supermarket area as seen in the cover photo.
It looks really comfortable and welcoming with ample amount of seating seating space. A very clever use of space. And I noticed something interesting here, the tissue that is placed on the table is actually a product that is sold at the supermarket. Very intelligent method of marketing the product by letting diners to use it and pick it up if they like what they use. Many a times when we see new products at a supermarket but we are not sure if it is good, by having something like this will aid us in making our purchase decision.
There are nice billboards for one to reference what are the available food at this eating area. And they have many choices available.
As it was also dinner time and with such a setup available within the supermarket, I might as well have my dinner here. I ordered a Mala stir fry dish by picking up various ingredients available at the shop as I am a big fan of Mala.
The Mala Stir Fry looks super appetizing and most importantly, it is very affordable with many ingredients to choose from. While it is affordable, sometimes it could mean they taper down in the sauce they use or it might taste bland. I was totally wrong, it tasted really good and the most important thing is that, the sauce and spice used in cooking the dish can all be found within the supermarket. How amazing it that! Another immersive experience where one can actually buy sauces and spices that they actually eat before leaving the supermarket. This is yet another level up in terms of marketing and letting customers experience it before purchasing it. Many a times, we want to replicate the taste of a particular food at home but not sure where to get the various ingredients that is used to cook the food, but with this new concept, everything is known.
To also share, the way they cook is not rocket science where it needs top notch skills, the food sold here are mainly easy to make food such as the mala stir fry dish that I ordered. With the right spice and fresh ingredients, by doing a simple stir fry, everyone will be capable of making a similar dish to what is sold here.
Not only that, my wife also like the concept of just picking up the chilled beverage from the refrigerator at the supermarket to finish our meal. And of course these can also be bought in bigger quantities/cartons like in a supermarket.
This immersive dining and shopping experience deployed by the supermarket is a brilliant idea that we can learn from in terms of our handling of daily things. Bringing the right elements together can bring bigger fold of opportunities and even collect additional data to bring in the right things enhance the experience. Running things conventionally might continue to bring in revenue, but integrating some experience by customers will elevate business revenue by a large fold and helps us to continuously improve from how customers experience and feedback.
