Last Day in Italy — Bergamo
Today was the last full day in Italy. Tomorrow morning I am flying back to Greece, and honestly, I can’t believe how fast these days went by. It’s been a full trip — from the energy of Milan, to the peace of Lake Como, and now ending here in Bergamo.
Today I spent my day in Bergamo. I have heard some great things from friends that visited Bergamo and I was curious since it is not a must-see destination in Italy, since Italy has so many other places to visit. Still, I wanted to give it a chance and see what it’s really like.
To tell you the truth, the visit did not meet the expectations I had about the city. Don’t get me wrong — it’s a good place to visit, but nothing special. I went to Città Alta, a really good place with some amazing views of the city and strong medieval vibes. The streets there are charming, with stone alleys, old buildings, and cozy cafés. I walked around for a few hours, explored the main square, tried some local pastries, and enjoyed the view from the top — it really gives you a nice perspective of the city.
I really like the city’s market road with clothing stores etc., but that was it. I didn’t find anything special in the city to make me want to revisit. Maybe that is because I visited the Lake Como villages of Varenna and Bellagio — that was amazing and magical! The contrast between those places and Bergamo is probably what made me feel this way.
And of course Milan, with the amazing Milanese vibe — that city left a mark. So, while Bergamo was nice, it just didn’t have that “wow” factor. Still, I’m glad I came. It felt like the right quiet way to end my trip before heading back home.
