Hello everyone! 📷 😎
Last week, from all media, the weather forecasters were predicting a terrible winter weekend.
First, up to half a meter of snow would fall in the valleys, then the Siberian cold would descend and the temperature would be more than minus ten degrees below zero.
All the radios, televisions, and all the news on the Internet warned of this.
You would be scared if you didn't know it's just winter and this is a perfectly normal winter condition. 😜
I would rather say at last, because it is high time for a white blanket to cover all these meadows, forests, and cities. It has always been like this for as long as I can remember, and winter is always the coldest and most uncomfortable time for me, with a lot of snow.
I was driving from work, from Postojna, back home on Friday afternoon.
The weathermen were right. It did happen, but not everywhere, not in all valleys. Three-quarters of Slovenia was covered by snow, but some of it remained as it was before.
And then I arrived home. Like night and day. 30 km south, where I live, in Ilirska Bistrica, sunny, almost without a cloud, is this spring?
You can't believe it if you can't see it.
The next day, Saturday, my wife wants to go for a walk in the snow.
OK, let's go a bit higher, I was also wondering if there was any snow in the hills. A 15-minute drive into the woods, towards Snežnik mountain, at 900 meters altitude it should appear.
At one bend, where the forest ended, we stopped and continued on foot. There is some snow, but not much. The wind is still going, so it's blowing the snow away.
We went up an unnamed hill, just over 900 meters, but as it was higher I was hoping for a better view for some interesting photos. Yes, it was sunny, but still quite cold.
We are almost at the top, but there is nothing there, and the view is not very good.
Atos also beat me to it. He was a bit cold in the wind because he has short hair, so he is dressed :)
I also noticed that the moon is visible, even though it's around 3 p.m. It was very clear air, really without a cloud.
South facing, sea view. The mountain in the background on the right is Učka, in Croatian Istria, and on the left, not visible, is Kvarner Bay. Next time we should go higher.
View to the west, the Bistrica Valley, then the Brkini hills and the Istrian peninsula in the background.
View to the north, Vremščica Peak on the left side of the photo, and Pivka Valley,
and the Nanos Mountain and Postojna Valley.
That's it for the views. There wasn't much snow, the wind was blowing, but it was very sunny.
I was going to finish, but, to give you a better idea of exactly where this is, and, if I had a rocket and got up to 21 kilometers, this is what I would have seen:
The red dot is where we were, at 921 m altitude.
