monomad challenge: the beech forest in spring

taking a walk in the forest any time of year is always pleasant with photo motifs all around. each season is different and while winter has its charms there is no doubt that spring is a welcome change. the sun is warm and newly sprouted leaves are beginning once again to clothe the naked trees the forest floor has turned from snow white to a mix of new growth green, last autumns fallen brown leaves and wildflowers in bloom. so while color shots may seem to be the obvious first choice, it's actually a great opportunity for black and whites. the mixture of direct sunlight, various degrees of filtered light and the nuances of shading make the springtime forest an ideal setting. the challenge is to capture the potential. here's my attempt. i took all these photos with my S22 phone camera

here in Norway beech forests are rare but where you find them they are often exclusively beech trees. once established they tend to remain stable for centuries, in terms of ecological succession beech forests are climax communities. while there is basically only one species of tree it is nonetheless rich in biodiversity. some of the species present are so specially adapted to the unique conditions of the forest that they can only be found here.
