The so-called weeds can cause many gardeners to panic. The normal thing is to do nothing against these weeds if they do not compete with the crop. These plants that cover the garden, far from being harmful, are usually beneficial for our plants. Only those that reach a height of a couple of palms compete with the planted ones.

But there is an interesting and effective way to combat them. In addition, we can benefit greatly and for that we have a secret weapon: spinach. Spinach is a plant, especially some varieties, that behaves the same as many ground cover plants.
So its use is simple. Scatter seeds among our winter vegetables such as cabbage, endives or peas.
The spinach will grow in abundance and will cover the ground, preventing weeds from emerging as they will not allow the light to pass through. Not only will they not compete with the rest of the plants in the bed, but they will also help protect the soil and maintain humidity.
