Prelude
A brand new week has started and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern where I look at how I crossed over from playing in Wild Battles till today focusing and getting more cards on Modern Battles, sharing with the community the struggles, the strategies and things I do to move towards playing in Modern. Conclave Arcana had been in our midst for a few weeks now, I believe many have started diving into the new cards and looking into how to integrate existing cards with the new ones. Have you developed new strategies or had amazing match ups that showcase the strength of this new set? However, it is still important for us to understand more on what Rebellion had to offer and boost up the new modern, and that is why, we continue diving into those cards and look out of for opportunities for integration with Conclave Arcana.
At the point of writing, there is a new campaign mode that is released right after the maintenance to gain some foundation cards. Do clear them and get your collection expanded.
Rebellion Core Set Cards
Similar to the previous post for this series, we will begin discussing card from the Rebellion Core Set. Using a similar method when I reviewed the Soul Bound reward cards, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and will give a simple review to whether or not investing into them will level up your game play or not. And let's continue our review and look at 2 legendary cards from earth splinter in today's review.
Zebajin
The first earth splinter legendary card that we will reviewing today will be Zebajin. Ok since it is a legendary card, we will probably have to look deeper into the card itself for any potential combos etc. So first look, a 7 mana 1 magic damage card with a truck load of health. However, it becomes kinda awkward to see armoured strike ability but the maximum armour this card has is only just 2 at most. I am not sure what is going on but this is really intriguing as it is a legendary card and when I look at it having last stand, it is also not doing much justice. I am quite confused how is this card a legendary card as everything looked a little mediocre. By sheer looking at this, I think this is a card to pass unless we are able to find something to boost its armour significantly. Otherwise, probably it will just be another normal hitter.
Lord Thanalor
The next card we will look at will be Lord Thanalor. This card at least looks more decent than Zebajin. But again, I do expect more from legendary cards. Stats wise it is really good and I think this card will be useful if at level 2 onwards where it has scavenge to make up for the health as cards on the field are killed and boosting this card health. Further development also showcase this card like a true lord to debuff opponent lineup and allow its other cards to punish with an exposed card with reduced armour. I like it especially to enhance thorns and all, maybe a much more worthy card to invest into than Zebajin, though I might consider looking into other lower rarity cards for a start to build up foundation before diving into this.
Assessment
The 2 cards that we assess today are cards are with mixed feelings. I really thought when I review legendary cards, I would be more impressed, from the likes of Oshannus back in the days of Chaos Legion. This two cards while Lord Thanalor looks a little better, Zebajin really got my head scratching on how it even qualify to be a legendary card.
Rating wise will be mixed between the 2, Zebajin will fare poorer than Lord Thanalor even when it has last stand. Zebajin whom is unflattering deserves a rating of 2.0/5, other than slightly better stats, the ability does not sync up and not having any form of complement with one another especially with a very weak stat for armour. For Lord Thanalor, I would say this is a much better card but not overly impressive. It might have much better synergy amongst its abilities and have general better full lineup based buff and also self sustenance to ensure prolonged duration on the battle field. In terms of rating, it would get a 3.5/5 because the mana cost is seriously abit too high.
The 2 legendary cards didn't look as good as I want them to be and I would certainly say that one has prioritized other cards instead of this 2 unless you really have some spare cash to "collect" and complete your collection. Otherwise, earth has many other strong cards that one should focus on than this 2.
Wrap Up
I have started looking into the Rebellion core set cards that we need to start building up to prepare for the new set that will be coming in when Chaos Legion gets rotated out. I do hope that with the new set that will be launching soon, we can find back the vibrancy during the prime days where everyone was busy camping for cheap cards or scurrying through the rental market to get cheap rentals. Remember, if you are uncertain, there is training mode available for you to test these card out and try out how it can perform before purchasing or renting.
Let's continue to grow and find path in modern as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
