Splinterlands: Sometimes damage is just as important in fights

in Splinterlands8 days ago

Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle that I won because I took advantage of the rules to deal as much damage as possible.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Little League, Back to the basic, and Melee Mayhem. This means that only monsters with mana cost of 4 or less can be used, monsters lose all abilities, and melee monsters can attack from anywhere. There is also 22 mana and I can choose fire, earth, or deathsplinter.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Thaddius Brood4Summoner-1 magic and health
Xenith Monk41st
Wily Coyotian22nd
Giant Scorpion43rd
Uraeus34th
Whistling Damon35th
Soul Strangler36th
Total Mana:23

I used Thaddius Brood as my summoner for the -1 magic and health. I focused on using melee monsters up front to tank damage with the lower damaging monsters up front so my higher damage dealers in the back can do damage. I have two ranged monsters because they have relatively decent speed and damage out of the gold foil cards that I had left. I am limited in my options in these brawl fights so I went with this lineup because I think the best defense would be a good offense given the ruleset. I can't predict what type of lineup my opponent will use because they can choose any lineup.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match. I don't know why my opponent didn't put down Riftwing in the first spot to get more damage. My opponent does have the level advantage so I could still lose this match. Overall, my opponent has more tankier monsters but I have more damage. As long as I don't miss too much, I should win this match.

Round 3

round 3.png
I skipped forward to the 3rd round because me and my opponent were trading blows. I lost 2 monsters while my opponent lost 3. At this point, I think that I have this match won because I have two melee monsters left while my opponent only has 1. My damage advantage still stands and my opponent will lose most of his damage once that last melee monster dies.

I was able to win the match a few rounds later as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time played out as expected. I decided to use melee monsters where I could and I put the low-damaging monsters up front to give my higher-damaging monsters more time in the back. I don't think my opponent thought through what to do for his lineup, as I believe he could have put up a better fight if he had done something similar. Despite missing a few attacks, I had more than enough buffer to win this match.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Quite close, if he changed rift position and add a melee might have won

Yea. My opponent had the level advantage but a bad lineup. He could have won if he changed it.

It's almost the same strategy with the opponent, with the exception of a few cards, I think back to basic Ruleset can be tricky sometimes, but good win

Yea. I think I won because I made good use of my lineup while my opponent did not consider back to the basics and melee mayhem for this match.

I’m happy you won
More wins❤️

Thank you
