Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Underboss Fabino.
Featured cards
Underboss Fabino is an Earth summoner that costs 5 mana. This card has the ability to give two ally monsters +2 melee damage or poison on an enemy unit. I didn't use this card too much before the changes to modern because the level advantage seemed to be too large, but now that Modern no longer has Chaos Legion, I find this card very useful. The extra melee damage or poison could be quite useful, depending on the ruleset.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The ruleset this time is Up Close & Personal and Rise of the Commons. This means that only melee monsters that are common or rare can be used in this fight. There is also 16 mana available, and I can use earth or life splinter.

I use Underboss Fabino for extra melee damage on two units. In this fight, I only have two monsters due to the low mana cap. These two monsters are Lioceros as my tank with thorns and Halaran Huntress for the flying and charge ability.
My strategy is to rely on my summoner's +2 melee attack on the two units that I put in this fight. It will increase their damage by quite a bit, and my tank also has thorns, so it will counter some of the melee damage. Halaran Huntress can attack from anywhere, and it also has flying to dodge a few of the sneak monsters that my opponent can play. With my summoner, my effective damage per round is 9 instead of 5. So I am relying on that to take out my opponents quickly.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. The shield ability added to my opponent's tank could be annoying, but I think my increased damage due to my summoner is more than enough to make up for it. Overall, the damage advantage seems too much for my opponent to overcome.
Round 3
My opponent lost his tank, and my lineup is still quite healthy. There is nothing my opponent can do because I would win from thorns damage alone, even if I missed all of my attacks.
I ended up winning this match later that round, as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time worked out as I planned. Using Underboss Fabino worked out well, as it increased my damage on my melee monsters. So, using a low amount of monsters did not hurt me in this match as the mana cap was quite low. Since this was the case, I wanted my monsters to be able to attack from both the back and front. Since it was a melee-only match, it worked out well to use a thorns monster up front. I think my opponent made a mistake by only having one monster attack at a time. His tank may have gained the shield ability, but without any way to maintain its health, I don't think it's as powerful. Overall, I think I would have won regardless due to my lineup since my summoner worked out well with the ruleset.
