Splinterlands: Grandmaster Rathe is a great summoner in back to the basics

in Splinterlands3 months ago

Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle that I won because of Grandmaster Rathe.

Featured cards

Grandmaster Rathe is a life summoner that costs 6 mana. This summoner gives +1 armor, void armor, and amplify. I have this summoner at level 2 so it increases the level of cards that I can play, but I still think it can be a powerful summoner under the right conditions.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Five Alive and Back to the Basics This means that monsters lose all abilities and we can only use up to 5 monsters. There is also 32 mana and I can choose fire, water, life, or dragon splinter.

My tank is Pelacor Conjurer as a filler monster to take hits while my other magic monsters deal damage. After that is my array of magic monsters starting with Djinn Renova and then followed with quite a few others. I aimed for getting magic monsters that can deal decent damage and they aren't too slow. I am using Grandmaster Rathe to keep my monsters alive because any magic monsters will have to go through my armor first. This should buy me time for my magic monsters to destroy my opponent.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think I have the advantage. My opponent is using a lot of magic monsters so my void armor will soak up an extra attack. The only problem is that monster in the 2nd spot with high health.

Round 2

round 2.png
Both my opponent and I lost one monster. I didn't lose any damage dealers but I did reduce the damage that I would take. It's a battle of endurance to see who can kill off each other's monsters first.

Round 4

image.png
I was able to take out the 2nd monster and my opponent doesn't have many magic monsters left. I don't think there is any way for me to lose this match because all that is left is magic monsters and they can't miss.

I was able to win the match a few rounds later just as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time played out as expected. I used Grandmaster Rathe for the void armor ability and this proved to be a good choice due to the magic monsters. My opponent had a summoner that added armor but that was worthless because I also focused on using magic monsters to deal damage. The only thing in hindsight that I did was that I didn't use the 1 mana reward card like my opponent.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Rathe is cheap and sometimes is even better than Lux Vega for this ruleset, great choice!

Yea. It's a good cheap card but useful card. The void armor ability makes it stand out as a good choice.
