Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge that can be found in this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to learn about the game. In this week's challenge, we talk the new Campaign Mode.
Campaign Mode
You can visit the campaign page here or go to it through the play tab above. This is a new section added, and I think it does a good job of letting people learn the basics of the game. It also rewards new and existing users for completing it at least once.
Currently, there is only one campaign available for people to do. It does look like there is plans for a 2nd one later down the line.
I went through the entire Book 1 and it didn't take very long at all. I suggest finishing it as it rewards you both Glint and cards to your arsenal. What I like about the different chapters is that each one goes over a different thing in the fights. You learn about all the different attack styles, mana, abilities, elements, and modifiers in the fights. You can't turn off your brain and put any lineup, but I don't think any chapter was especially hard.
Above are a few examples of what you can earn from doing the chapters in the book. It comes with summoners, so I think that the people who feel left out without any free summoners will be able to use them. The choice of cards is a bit limited, but it should be enough to get people started. Currently, Chapter 1 doesn't require any fighting, but all the chapters onwards require winning a fight. Also, the rewards are only given on first completion, and you would not get extra copies for doing the campaign multiple times.
Thoughts
I think Campaign Mode is a great idea, and it will help new players become familiar with the system. It also gives them cards to use in battles, and I also think it's great that existing players can also get access to these cards. I believe that these cards are bound to the account and can't be sold, so it will just let people play the game without worries. I know that one worry people had was that there were no more free summoners for people to use in modern after the addition of Conclave Arcana. I have checked, and you can see them in ranked battles so you can use them there.
May be used to earn Glint and SPS (if SPS is staked)
There are a few things that I am still unsure about, and them is whether or not these cards have any penalties. At least in the fight that I used the new cards from, I didn't suffer from any. So I think that people should be fine on that end. Of course, we aren't sure where things will head, but I am glad that existing players just have a way to play without spending. I found that on the engagement challenge, that you can only earn Glint and SPS if you have SPS staked.
Conclusion
The new campaign mode is a great tool for new and existing players. For new players, it gives them a way to learn about the battle system, and some cards to test out the battle system. On the other hand, existing players will have some cards to play with without paying. It won't be very strong cards, but at least they are not gated out by the Wild pass or Modern. This solved one of my worries about Conclave Arcana.
How was your experience in the new campaign mode?
