Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Chaos Dragon.
Featured cards

Chaos Dragon is a dragon splinter that costs 14 mana. It starts with flying and scattershot. Leveling this card gives this card blast at level 2, and blind at level 3.
I think this card is very strong, but the only downside is the high mana cost. 14 mana is too much for quite a few fights. I think that this card shines the most starting at level 2 when it learns the blast ability. I used it quite a bit in Modern when I could, but I only use this card in Brawls now. Unfortunately, my gold foil summoners are too low level, so I don't have access to that blast ability. Even without the blast ability, this card has decent stats so it can be used if there is enough mana available.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Fog of War and Earthquake. This means that there is no snipe, opportunity, and sneak abilities. At the same time, any non-flying monster will take 2 physical damage per turn. There is also 45 mana available, and I can use life or dragon splinter.
This is an interesting match as it favors flying monsters. Of course, high-stat monsters can also deal a decent amount of damage over time as they can take a few earthquake hits. There is enough mana to build a decent lineup,
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drake of Arnak | 4 | Summoner | +1 Armor |
| Imperial Knight | 7 | 1st | Void Armor |
| Captain Katie | 7 | 2nd | Snipe |
| Chaos Dragon | 14 | 3rd | Flying and Scattershot |
| Venari Marksrat | 3 | 4th | Martyr |
| War Pegasus | 7 | 5th | Flying |
| Venari Crystalsmith | 4 | 6th | Tank Heal |
| Total Mana: | 46 |
My summoner is Drake of Arnak for the +1 armor. Imperial Knight is my tank with void armor. Captain Katie is a damage dealer with decent stats. After that is Chaos Dragon as my damage dealer, and Venari Marksrat after that with martyr. Next up is War Pegasus so it can also take advantage of the martyr, and my last monster is Venari Crystalsmith as a healer.
The focus of this lineup is built around keeping my monsters alive as long as possible. I only have two flying monsters, but I put a martyr monster in between them, as I will rely on them if the match stretches that far out. The rest of my monsters are damage dealers or monsters that can keep them alive.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. I am a bit woried about the Uriel my opponent has, but at least it doesn't have the heal ability. This match will depend on whether or not I can kill off Uriel first or if my Chaos Dragon dies. I don't expect this to be a short match, as the non-flying monsters will just die from the earthquake.
Round 3

My fight isn't looking that great because my opponent's bloodlust monster has stacked a few bloodlust. My opponent's Uriel is also still at full health. Unless I can dodge a few attacks, I don't see myself winning.

I got lucky, and that bloodlust monster missed due to the flying ability. With that missed attack, I was able to win the match because I had two flying monsters.
Conclusion
The battle this time did not play out as I planned, but Chaos Dragon was the MVP of this match. The flying ability was able to dodge a fast bloodlust-stacked monster, and it was able to stay alive as long as possible due to the earthquake ruleset. Chaos Dragon is great because of its high stats, but the mana cost is too high. Also, I feel that it is nerfed without being level 2, but my summoners aren't high enough level in Brawls.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
