This morning I had the chance to capture the atmosphere of a traditional market in one of the quite crowded corners, precisely in a grocery store called Edi's Shop. This place is one of the favorite stopping points for local residents to buy daily necessities.
On the left side, a man is seen arranging and weighing fresh red chilies. Also visible are piles of shallots, which are an important staple ingredient in every home cooking.
Meanwhile, on the right side, a mother with a helmet still on her head is busy measuring dried ginger from a large sack. In front of her is a basket filled with bread and several bottles of ready-to-drink coffee drinks, adding to the complete atmosphere of the merchandise in front of the shop.
This photo shows how a traditional market is not only a place to buy and sell, but also a lively and colorful social interaction space. Hopefully this portrait can remind us all of the importance of maintaining the sustainability of traditional markets amidst the onslaught of modernization.
