Hi there friends on Hive, Ecency and all other Frontends on the Blockchain.
This would probably be the most interesting thing I have shared this week. I watched an interview of Elon Musk Talking about AI and the future and obviously as many hold a serious concern would be it's impact in the Job sector. It's no secret that we all have the fear of AI and robotics completely replacing lots of jobs done by people.
If we can't work then we can't make money and that has been a major concern about AI. Well I'm not going to say that Elon Musk has found an ultimate solution to this problem but it looks like it could work if we can actually do it.
Before I share my opinions on what Musk said, I think it's appropriate to share the video of the interview and what Mr. Musk actually said as a possible solution to this AI and less jobs problem.
When I watched Elon Musk discussing Universal Basic Income, to be honest it really did resonate with me. And I know not everyone may agree with his suggestion. It's not exactly perfect though and I'll talk about all sides of this coin.
One thing is that Elon Musk is a futurist and his opinion on UBI is quite fascinating too. He predicts that the world will have fewer jobs for people due to automation and artificial intelligence which is an obvious outcome which let's be honest we are already seeing today with advancements in technology and AI. In such an environment, Musk argues that every individual may need to be given some money as a basic right since they may not be able to work for it.
Don't know how this sits with everyone but although it looks like a solution, I personally don't work just for money but for the love of it.
However I find myself sharing Musk’s perspective as a great solution to the less jobs due to AI situation we would probably face in the future. Technology is improving very fast which might render human workers redundant especially with the rise of machines and AI systems meant to replace them in factories while supermarkets and other business entities are turning to automated customer service systems and self-checkout machines. This would mean that there are many people who would no longer be able to work in traditional industries if this trend continues.
I actually agree with Elon that it could be solved by UBI. It is appropriate for each person to have a guaranteed income so that their basic needs are taken care of in case they lose their jobs because of automation, more like social security onna global scale. I think it is advisable since it serves as a safety net for those who will be affected by technological progress and assists to avoid widespread poverty.
One interesting element about Musk’s point is his positive attitude towards life once individuals get the chance to be free. Without having the burden of earning their daily bread, people would probably use most part of their day time being creative, doing what they love most and spending more time with family members.
Imagine a world where Money is no longer an option. It technically levels the playing field for everyone and yes I'm aware of the bad side to this which I'll discuss too.
This means that through UBI, Musk believes people can lead more fulfilling lives and participate in meaningful social activities which sounds good to me.
However, there are many challenges in implementing UBI. The most apparent problem is finance. It would take a lot of money to provide a basic income to everyone. Musk suggests levying companies that benefit from automation as a possible solution but it would still be an enormous undertaking finance-wise. In addition, our existing social systems would have to be rethought for such a change.
Another worry is how this scheme can affect people’s drive to work. Some fear that if individuals are given funds without working for them, they may lose their motivation towards being productive. This I believe is something that really needs careful thinking because I strongly believe that even though people may have different jobs leading to personal fulfillment and self-directed activities, it must be taken with caution however since one cannot allow UBI undermine motivation of people contributing into the society.
But, I actually consider UBI as a potentially beneficial forward step. Musk showed that the nature of work is fast changing and we need innovative ways to tackle the resulting problems. UBI could offer financial stability in an era where regular jobs are fewer than ever. It might limit poverty rates, improve mental health and give individuals freedom to exploit other opportunities.
Now this Universal Basic Income would definitely not be for everyone just like I said. Only those impacted by the automation systems and AI. There will still be programmers, artists, athletes, actors, social media influencers and lots of other jobs.
Infact newer jobs will exist due to new technologies that would probably need experts to handle, operate and improve upon so it's definitely not going to be the end of work which is a good thing to know right?
Listening to Musk discussing about UBI gave me some good hope for tomorrow. On the other hand, it is an inspiring concept of societies ensuring every member has their basic needs fulfilled. This is a future where all people benefit from technological development and human welfare matters most.
Elon Musk’s thoughts on Universal Basic Income provide quoi a provocative perspective of what the future holds for work. Although implementing UBI would be difficult, it could have many advantages making it worth considering such an idea.
Now I'm not saying that this is going to be assured but there's a chance this might be the best solution. I really want to know what you guys think of this idea in the comments.
- Thanks for the time guys and see you around.
