The 1st November Sunday

in Ecencylast month

I hate daylight savings time. During the night time switched back an hour and I have felt slightly off balance all day, It will start getting dark at 5 PM today and then by the time the winter solstice rolls around in six weeks, it will be dark by 4pm.

Winter days are often cloudy and dark and daylight savings time only serves to make us feel like we have even less sunshine.

More and more leaves are beginning to fall from the trees, but depending on where you look there are still patches of stunning color

This photo was taken this week in the Japanese garden at the local botanical garden.

I posted this photo earlier this week in Waves, but for those of you that missed it this is a Tamarack, or American larch (Larix laricina). It is a native conifer that is unique because it is deciduous. It sheds its needles in the fall after turning yellow.

This charming new snackbar/restrooms building was recently added in the botanical garden. The crabapple trees are beautiful in the springtime when they are in bloom and the apples will support wildlife this winter.

These milk cap mushrooms have popped up all over the neighborhood this week. Not one that I would risk eating!

If my memory serves me correctly, we have not had daylight saving time for 11 years. More precisely, the arrows were switched to daylight saving time in the spring, but they were not switched back in the fall. It was already dark outside at 4:30 p.m. today. On the shortest day, December 21st, it will be dark at 3 p.m.

You are further north so 3pm dark makes sense. I hope it's a mild winter.

Hello, happy Sunday.
The pictures you took at the botanical garden are very beautiful.
And the process of changing schedules must be very uncomfortable, we only have one schedule and two seasons here, but what I have seen lately is a huge change in the weather.
I hope you enjoyed the walk.
My best wishes.

Thanks for the support!

The time change always disorients us a little. Thank you for giving us this walk through that beautiful garden, nature is always full of surprising images.

I'm still struggling with bedtime and adjusting to mealtime!

Good morning, wonderful pictures, savings time, morning, evening and night. Thank you for sharing the beautiful autumn scenery with all of us.

Thanks! It's a lovely time of year!

Yes my pleasure may god bless you

This is so beautiful. First time hearing the name crabapple. I thought it was cherry lol

I hate the clock change, it gets dark early and bright earlier. But what does that really accomplish? When you need light is five PM when people are driving home... Personal rant...

Beautiful pictures from the Japanese Botanical Gardens, such gorgeous fall colors. How is your bird watching coming along these days?

Come get MOONed!

Daylight saving is a really weird concept to us southern hemisphere dwellers. I just know that I had to be more considerate about what time I messaged my mom in the mornings when she was still in the UK!

I did spend a few weeks up there in the winter and it was completely discombobulating to walk into Harrod's at around 2pm and by the time we had finished our scones and tea and a brief sight-seeing of the famous department store, and then to walk out at just after 4pm to walk into total darkness.

I also noticed the sun, even on "sunny days," made no difference to the cold. It also seemed very far away and it's journey across the horizon was very short and shallow.

It will soon be winter though, a time where we feel out of place again as everyone talks about snowy Christmases while we are rubbing sweat of our brows and trying to head for the closest body of water to cool down!

I guess all I can say is make the most of the pro's of winter, and try to remember that as crappy as it is for now, it doesn't last forever. Spring will be here before you know it!

Congratulations!! You have been featured by myself, @clairemobey in my latest Busy Bees curation post which is an initiative to get our buzzing bees to interact with and support each other as much as possible, and of course, to give everyone a chance to have their content featured!
