While they were on holiday in Zihuatanejo, Mexico my kids got some great photos of this Pacific Spotted Eagle Ray. They are relatively rare where compared to other Ray species, so it was rather exciting that they were able to get this photo. This Ray is considered near threatened, but not yet on the endangered list.
They are a non-aggressive species that is not dangerous to humans, except for their defensive venomous barb located near the base of the tail. They are timid and will swim away if you get too close.
This random fish just happened to swim past and was fair game for a photo, too. It's difficult to identify, but I liked the photo!
Zihuatanejo was a fishing village before it gained fame in The Shawshank Redemption movie, and it appears that fishing is still good there. They are hosting a fishing tournament. If you hurry you may still be able to get in!
And this last photo because it made me laugh.
