While I was making the post, and reviewing this green grasshopper, I was amaze by the design of its body, and the color it has to be able to blend so nicely with the surroundings. I think it is good until it eats up all the green leaf of the plant it is resting on so that it can reveal itself by accident.
And then I was thinking, why would a ferocious herbivore like this grasshopper have so many sharp swords (spines) on the tibia od of hind legs? it doesn't need to kill the plant with those swords isn't it?
Then I remember that a good herbivore, is a good source of protein for the good predator, as the cycle of life continues. So maybe it is part of its defensive mechanism that they have to at least give a fight back to the predator (smaller one).
Now look closely at these spines, certainly if you are a small predator you don't want to kick in the face with those sharp spines isn't it? or maybe it can be used against another herbivore that occupies the same tasty plant? so what d you think it can be used for?
